Is there anywhere in the United States where a shot clock is used for high school basketball? It is absolutely ridiculous that there is no shot clock. It does not have to be 30 seconds it could be 40 or 45. It's not real basketball without a shot clock

OHSAA, lead the way, put a shot clock in Ohio Prep basketball

Plenty of states use the shot clock but Ohio has it right not using it.

“Stall ball” is an art when used properly and can keep games competitive for teams who would otherwise have no chance. Shot clocks provide more possessions in the game, which gives the better team more opportunities to score and forces the lesser team to match basket for basket. A shot clock in high school basketball won’t give the underdogs a chance. Not to mention it will ugly up games even more with all of the forced shots at the end of the shot clock.

If you don’t like it go play defense.

100% Agree, you have to keep the shot clock out of HS basketball.

I agree , there is an artistic beauty to basketball other than run and gun or slamma jamma. Strategy that calls for trapping defenses, crisp passing and ball handling.

Some of Carroll Hawhee's great Waverly teams with Shoemaker were not offensive juggernauts. They were successful because they controlled games with tempo and defense.

If anything they should implement it with 5 minutes left at the end of the 2nd quarter and 4th, while I do agree stalling is a tactic and apart of the game but this isn’t the early days of basketball where there was no 3pt line. Also I think KY has it could be wrong tho

Probably in the minority here but would personally love to see a 30 second shot clock. Teach kids how to create for themselves and teammates. Sure, there will be plenty of bad shots taken but eventually the skill level of the players will improve & the game will evolve like it always does.
Also would add some strategy/clock management on the coaches. 2 for 1 possessions etc.

My guess is some of the people clamoring for a shot clock will be crying about running the score up if it ever gets instituted. Why not just hand the ball to a defender when you’re up by 20 points or more. Or intentionally throw the ball out of bounds. Just make a rule that you can only pass or dribble the ball when you’re up by 20 and also have a 30 second clock. That should make everyone happy. Or better yet just don’t keep score. Make it a 20 second clock and no score. After the final buzzer both teams get to shoot ten free throws to determine the winner. But both teams get a trophy win or lose.

Sounds like some of the ND football dads although I think it’s really one guy with 7 usernames. You can tell those guys all want their kids to get a trophy

NFHS approved a 35-second shot clock but does not mandate it. They have some guidelines around implementing it.

I’ve seen various pieces of information on states that have a shot clock already. California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Washington seem to be consensus, but I’ve seen other lists of up to 14 states (maybe some added this year after the NFHS thing?).

California has apparently had a girls shot clock since 1976 and boys since 1996.

Shot clock being used in Arizona. 35 second click, not one violation. Both teams moved the ball and some tight defenses.
After seeing the clock being used I think it will work out.

if your team is significantly better and going to blow out another team, play your bench the second half. There is nothing worse than seeing a game end 25-23 because both teams hold the ball the final 2 minutes of each quarter.

This sounds like soccer. Ihere they playin that World Cup. Do they do that in soccer? End games 1-1 and give em all medals and trophies?
