Washington CH 69
Vinton County 60 a final

... VC #16 vs Washington CH #9 ... if you go by the preseason ranking this one ended the way it should have based on the rankings ... Coach Nj Kight's Vikings had other plans as this one unfolded in the opening quarter of action - VC jumped on the Blue Lions early holding the bigger CH team to but 1 fg in the opening quarter while dropping 7 fgs including 2/3 from downtown ... Vinton Co was led by Jack Davidson's 7 pts in the period including a trey ... Cobra Sharp added 4 points along with Garrett Brown's triple (3 pts) and 6-6 Ashton Allman's putback 2 pts. ... Washington's lone fg was a 3 pointer by 6-5 junior Isaiah Haithcock to go with 2/2 FT's from John Wall ... Vinton County 16 Court House 5 after 1 ... as expected in the opening qtr. both teams turned the ball over (WCH 5 TOs to VC's 4) ... the Blue Lions settled down following a timeout at 7:01 in the 2nd as the Vikings pushed the lead to 21-8 ... back to back long range jumpers from Raleigh Haithcock (6pts with a pair of triples) pulled CH to within 7 at 14-21 @ 6:10 on the clock ... Court House looked more Court House like as they forced 6 VC turnovers while taking care of the ball (1 turnover in the period) ... the Blue Lions outscored VC 17-7 the rest of the way in the final 6 minutes of the 2nd ... John Wall (8pts in the qtr/10 in the half), Raleigh Haithcock (2 threes/6 pts),6-6 Tanner LeMaster 5pts, Isaiah Haithcock and transfer Michael Bearden both a deuce in the period ... for Vinton Brayden Cain a 3 ball (3pts)/ single 2pointers from Garrett Brown (4 pts in the qtr.)/Cobra Sharp and Parker Shonborn (2pts) Allman added a FT ... Washington CH won the quarter 26-12 to take a 31-28 lead going into the intermission ... the 3rd period was played relatively even both teams with 5 TO's ... the goto players on each side set the tone as John Wall added 7pts/LeMaster 6pts/R. Haithcock hit his 3rd three pointer/Bearden 2pts for Court House ... the Vikings were led by Garrett Brown's 8 pts and 2 points each from Sharp/Allman/Owen HIre off the bench ... the Lions pushed the lead to 7 points where it stayed throughout the period ending with Washington CH 49 Vinton County 42 end of 3 ... in the final period we saw what we had seen the entire game - a Vinton County TEAM that played hard, was physical on the defensive end, held there own on the offensive end of the floor ... even with all of the positives the Vikings couldn't get closer than 7 pts as Washington's size and athleticism kept VC at arms length the entire qtr. ... if you look at the game napkin stats the big negative was FT shooting for VC ... the Vikings went 9 for 24 from the charity stripe - hard to chip away at an opponents lead if you can't make head way from the FT line ... VC got 4 more points from Sharp in the 4th/2 for 6 from behind the arc in the period with Brayden Cain a triple and Brown 1 ... Brown led VC with 8 points in the 4th period ... WCH looked inside to LeMaster who added 7 points in qtr ...Raleigh Haithcock added his 4th three pointer of the night and Isaiah Haithcock 4 pts/9 for the game ... Washington CH 69 Vinton County 60 a final ...

Official UN-official Napkin Stats - Vinton County

3 Pointers ... 5/10 ... Brayden Cain 2, Garrett Brown 2, Jack Davidson 1

TOs ... 20
PnP ... 15 fgs/ 30 points in the paint
PnT ... 3 fgs/ 6 points in transition
Pbk ... 5fgs/10 points on putback buckets

... Glad I was able to see Coach Nj Kight's debut game as the Head Coach at VC ... as pointed out - VC played physical/hardnosed defense ... worked the ball inside , got to the rim with penetration from the perimeter scoring on 9 drives to the rim for the game ... 5/10 from 3 point land - a little low on the attempts from a VC team but you can't argue with 50% from behind the arc ... Coach K played 9 ... ALL added to what VC was trying to do - the Vikings are definitely contenders for the TVC crown along with Alexander ... VC is a 14-15+ win team this season imo

Official Un-official Napkin Stats - Washington CH

Scoring ... John Wall 20, Tanner LeMaster 18, Raleigh Haithcock 12, Isaiah Haithcock 9, Michael Bearden 6, Micah Brown 3, Garrett Rickman 1
3 Pointers ... 6/18 ... Raleigh Haithcock 4, Isaiah Haithcock 1, Tanner LeMaster 1

TOs ... 16
PnP ... 11 fgs/22 points in the paint
PnT ... 4 fgs/ 8 points in transition
Pbk ... 2 fgs/ 4 points on putback buckets

... Coach Bartruff has a solid lineup of players ... size /length ... perimeter scorers, inside presence/ inside scoring, multiple players who can get into the paint off the dribble ... the first game jitters are in the books - still came away with the W ... the Blue Lions will have a solid season - moving into the Elite 8 sooner than later ...

Good recap and rundown, maybe 2 top 12 teams. VC is one of the dinosaurs left that will actually feed the post. Few stronger than Allshire.
