After some twists and turns and late season drama, both TVC races appear to be locked up heading into the final week of the regular season. After its 58-48 win over Athens and victory over Meigs on Friday, the Vinton County Vikings improved to 13-5 overall and 8-2 in the TVC-Ohio with just two league game remainig versus River Valley and Wellston. Federal Hocking has already clinched the outright TVC-Hocking championship after sweeping Waterford and Trimble last week. The Lancers have won an impressive 18 straight games - and with a win over Southern in the season finale - will finish league play with a perfect 12-0 mark. All eyes will be on the tournament draw this afternoon as coaches and players learn their post season path to a possible distirct champinship. Seeding and brackets will be released sometime after 2PM.

Congratulations to the Federal Hocking Lancers and Vinton County Vikings on winning outright TVC championships as the 2022/2023 regular boys basketball season comes to an end. League standings are all but final with the exception of a make-up game between Alexander and River Valley this Tuesday.

After beating Southern 77-31 on Friday, Federal Hocking finished off a historical season in Stewart and ended the year with a 19-3 overall record and was a perfect 12-0 in league play. The Lancers had signature wins over Morgan, Paint Valley, Western Pike, Marietta, Athens, swept county rival Trimble and even earned a “de-facto” overall TVC championship by defeating Ohio Division winner Vinton Country 72-60 back on Jan. 17th. The maroon and gold also put together an impressive 18-game winning streak that lasted almost two months before losing the rematch with Marietta last week. This year’s TVC-Hocking title was the 3rd in the last 4 years for Federal Hocking and also its 12th since the TVC split back in 2004, the most of any school. 40% of all TVC-Hocking championship banners over the last 30 years will be hanging inside McInturf Gymnasium after the new one goes up. Trimble is second with 9 league titles.

As impressive as Federal Hockings run in the Hocking Division has been, Vinton County has been just a little better over on the Ohio side. After their 69-40 win over Wellston on Friday, the Vikings captured their 13th Ohio Division title in the last 20 years. It’s been a remarkable run for Vinton County, which has earned the most league championships since the leagues split 30 years ago. With the win over Wellston, the Vikings finished the regular season with a 16-5 overall record and went 10-2 in league play and will take on Warren in the first round of the DII tournament on Feb. 22nd.

Top 5 total league championships since 1969:
Federal Hocking 18
Vinton County 14
Trimble 13
Belpre 13
Alexander 9

TVC-OHIO

Vinton County (16-5),(10-2)
Alexander (15-6),(8-3)
Nelsonville-York (14-8),(8-4)
Athens (7-14),(6-6)
Meigs (7-15),(5-7)
Wellston (7-14),(4-8)
River Valley (1-20),(0-11)

TVC-HOCKING

Federal Hocking (19-3),(12-0)
Belpre (13-9),(9-3)
Waterford (12-8),(8-4)
Trimble (10-11),(6-6)
Southern (6-15),(3-9)
Eastern (4-18),(2-10)
South Gallia (7-15),(2-10)

That is correct. Marietta did not want to make up the game from earlier this season so the Vikings will play Zane Trace for a second time. Game will be in McArthur.

I knew ZT had one they lost - one of the teams - Jackson I believe - due to going deep into the football postseason couldn't participate in the Zane Trace TipOff classic - ZT was unable to get a team to fill-in , the Pioneers didn't play in their own classic the opening weekend of the season ...

OK. Please give examples of this "mistreatment". Also, please enlighten all of us about how SG's becoming a member of the conference since joining has raised the level of competition and improved the quality of play across the gamut of sports? Come on, let's hear it! Seems to me, SG has been an anchor around the ankles across all sports since joining the league, with the exception of the Girls BB team this year (and kudos to these young ladies). Other than this anomaly, please help all of us understand how your participation in the TVC has help move the league forward?

Didn't think so. Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you on the way to your next league affiliation. :D
