... this one was close in the first quarter as Waterford had 4 players get on the napkin stat sheet as Alec Johnson and Jarrett Armstrong each dropped a three pointer with deuces from Gavin Brooker/Gaibe Ponchak ... for the Senators matched the Wildcats as 5-10 jr. guard Jeffery Bishop put up 8 points on his own ball, with sr. Mitchell Irwin hitting the only other fg in the period for PWHS ... off the bench Ryan Sissel added a pair of FTs ... Portsmouth West 12 Waterford 12 after 1 ... what was set in place was what has become the MO for Portsmouth West (at least for those of us outside of the Greater Portsmouth area) ... PW plays hardnosed, pressure man 2 man D, full court, 32 minutes of "on ball pressure" ... the Senators established themselves, living up to their MO .. PW forced 8 turnovers in the opening quarter, the trend continued into the 2nd qtr as the Portsmouth West pressure turned the Wildcats over 7 more times ... 15 turnovers resulting in 14 Westsider points ... holding Waterford to 5 2nd quarter points ... putting a magnifying glass on the WHS weakness - needing a PG to run the show ... a 17-5 PW advantage on the scoreboard in the 2nd, led by 10 bench points - Diamonte Skaggs 4 points/Jack Jordan 4 pts/Ryan Sissel 2 ... Mitchell Irwin led the PW starters with 5 pts/ Bishop adding 2 more ... Portsmouth West 29 Waterford 17 at the half ... Portsmouth West through the 1st half of play did not hit a shot outside the blocks ... 0-10 from behind the 3 point line ... the only shots made by the Senators outside the paint on the blocks was going 5/9 from the charity stripe ... the 3rd quarter continued the same scenario from the opening 2 periods - continued PW on-ball pressure, 4 more Waterford miscues, PW outscored WHS 18-10 ... Braydon Vernier picked up the 1st perimeter scoring shot/3 pointer (1/16 thru 3 periods) ... Ryan Sissel made his presence felt in the paint getting 6 points off of offensive boards ... single buckets chipped in by Bishop on a drive to the rim, Trevor Fike on the block, and a deuce from Jack Jordan to round out the PW scoring in the period ... for WHS, Jarrett Armstrong was the go to guy, 6 pts in the period (a triple included) ... 2 points each for Brooker & CS-Ponchak ... Portsmouth West 47 Waterford 27 after 3 ... PW won their 3rd quarter in a row taking the 4th 14-12 ... forced 7 more Waterford turnovers ... Coach McClanahan played 11 in his rotation for PW ... 7 more points off the bench - Will Kegley 2, Brandon Barfield 2/2 for the FT line, Sissel 1/2 from the line, and Skaggs 2/2 free throws ... starters Irwin with a triple, Cole Tipton a 2 pter along with Fike another deuce ... Waterford got a 3 from Chip Adams, 5 pts from Alec Johnson, 2 each from Ponchak & Huck ... Portsmouth West 61 Waterford 39 a final ...

... big thanks goes out to Coach McClanahan and his Senators for making the 2+ hour trip to participate in the Clash !!! always great to see the Senators in the regular season ...
