I'm pretty sure Trimble lost to Fairfield Christian on Saturday Feb.18, 60-52 I think that puts Trimble overall record at 10-12 for the regular season

Ok 10-12. Not a great year but we arent gonna dominate every year and when you look at what Howie has done with what used to be a joke of a program you just have to smile. YOU JUST WAIT! Once we get that new gym built, we will be back with a vengenace. I aint counting us out this year yet so dont be reading into that.

After tonight's games 19 of the 20 teams have punched their ticket to the district tournament with Gallia and Circleville set to play tomorrow at 2:00. Federal Hocking is the lone team from the TVC to make it after Nelsonville-York and Belpre fell short in their sectional final games on Saturday.

The Lancers opponent Monday in the DIV district semi-finals at Athens High School will be (12-11) Beaver Eastern. But don't sleep on the sub .500 record as the Eagles have played one of the tougher schedules in the district. The SOC II, which Eastern competes in, will be sending an astounding FIVE teams to the districts this year. One-fourth of the enitre 20 team field are from one conference made up of mostly DIII schools. Eastern defeated Trimble 63-37 in the sectional finals on Friday.

Perhaps the best - or most entertaining - division this year may take place in the D2 bracket where 3 of the 4 teams have at least 20 wins. Court House (20-4), Fairfield Union (21-3), New Lex (20-4) and if Gallia can take care of business on Sunday, they will be the 4th. The Blue Devils defeated Alexander 66-37 in the sectional semi-finals.

After three months on the hardwood we are down to just 20 teams remaining when the 2023 Southeast District boys basketball tournament gets underway this week. With their 65-44 win over Manchester on Friday, the Federal Hocking Lancers will be the lone TVC representative and will face 7th seeded Beaver Eastern at Athens High School on Monday at 6PM. Federal Hocking earned the No. 2 seed in the DIV tournament after finishing the regular season with an impressive 19-3 overall record that included an 18-game winning streak. The winner of Monday’s game will play the winner of (3) South Webster and (6) Notre Dame for a district championship at the Convocation Center on Thursday March 2nd at 8:15.

Around the district: home teams (higher seed) went an astounding (45-4) during the two rounds of sectional play, which is a stark contrast compared to when sectional tournaments were played at neutral locations prior to 2020. The lone upsets were by #17 Hillsboro, #18 Portsmouth, #14 Circleville and #9 Lynchburg which knocked off #8 Northwest. There is only one undefeated team, Fairfield (23-0), which is the overall No. 1 seed in DIV. The top conference by far is the SOC II, which has a whopping 5 teams participating in this year’s tournament. One-fourth of the entire 20 team field are from the Southern Ohio conference down along the river. South Webster (15-8) and Beaver Eastern (12-11) will be competing in DIV, while Minford (21-1), Valley (18-6) and Wheelersburg are in the DIII tournament. The SOC I, SHAC and OVC each have three teams.

There are 7 teams with at least 20 wins, including Fairfield, Federal Hocking, Minford, Zane Trace, Court House, New Lex and Fairfield Union. The DIV district semi-finals are Monday, DIII Tuesday and DII will be Wednesday on neutral courts. Championship games begin Thursday at the Convo.

Per 740Sports

"The Athens County game of the week returns Thursday on 97.3FM when the Federal Hocking Lancers take on Portsmouth Notre Dame in the DIV district championship at the Convocation Center in Athens. The new frequency can be heard across the county and will keep us from having conflicts with Ohio University athletics on Power 105. Game time for opening night at the Convo is set for 6:15PM."

"On a side not: if you are not going to listen to the game I suggest going and watching the Lancers play, they are a highly entertaining bunch. They are undersized at every position, but play with a lot of heart, can shoot the lights out and are ultra quick. Led by a tenacious little point guard, Federal Hocking has won 21 games, an outright TVC-Hocking championship - to go along with a sectional title - and will be playing in the district championship for the first time in 53 years. What I like most about this group though is they play as a team and never get down on themselves or their teammates. They don’t whine about fouls, give refs dirty looks or show bad body language. They hustle their tails off from the opening tip until the final buzzer sounds - and if they can’t beat you with skill - they will just outwork you. The Lancers really do epitomize what we love about the Athens County athlete, tough, hardnosed, competitive, which is why anyone who is a sports fan should show up and support them. For the longest time other county schools have garnered all the media attention and attracted local support, it truly is great to see Federal Hocking have the spot light all to themselves for once. They will be carrying the TVC banner in one hand and Athens County flag in the other as they are our lone representative in this year’s tournament. They are also the higher seed and home team – but it won’t be home court advantage unless Notre Dame players are overwhelmed by a sea of marron looking down on them Thursday night."

"Good luck and go Lancers"
