Gallia Academy 51
Circleville 34 a final

... the pfloyd tour got a "bonus" day of hoops this weekend! as GAHS was the site of the Sectional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, with the basketball team still alive in the hoops post season AND a higher seed - they were to hold a Sectional Final Saturday with the other D2 sectional... the only option - a Sunday Matinee Game ... the Fairfield Union coaching staff were in attendance getting the opportunity to get eyes on both teams to scout prior to Wednesday's matchup with the winner ... great crowd in attendance! coaches past and present - Coach Joe Goodyear sat with the FU attendees ... Coach Holbert of Logan Elm taking in the D2 game with MSL Circleville having the chance to move on ... the Southern Ohio Sports Authority (SOSA) covering the game with daniC ... I saw the legendary Coach Jim Osborne (GAHS head coach for 41 years) doing color for radio ... I got to talk the whole game to daniC so going 2 games straight in anonymity was out of the question LOL - thank goodness!!! ...

... Coach Carpenter's troops from Roundtown took the early lead 3-0 on a deep 3 pointer by senior Nolan West which would be the only lead for the Tigers on the afternoon ...as GAHS got its tournament legs back - forcing 5 CHS turnovers/ one going for a transition bucket ...jr swing man Kenyon Franklin led the Blue Devil scoring with 5 pts including a triple that ended the period ... Jance Lambert sr transfer from River Valley added a 2 pter and the sr post player 6-8 Isaac Clary with 2 points on the blocks ... for the Tigers West picked up his second 3 pointer of the opening qtr (6pts) , Slater Search 6-5 jr big man for CHS added 2 points on a drive into the paint ... Gallia Academy 9 Circleville 8 after quarter 1 ... after the opening quarter it was evident that Gallia Academy had the upperhand in the paint with Clary owning the space on the blocks offensively and whose presence at 6-8 and 300 lbs on defense kept the paint and the boards cleared ... Coach Carpenter's team seemed a second or two off - leading to telegraphed passes - which were intercepted or cut off - over thinking on the perimeter which had CHS shooters NOT shooting ... the word uncomfortable comes to mind ... they looked uncomfortable and unsure of themselves for the biggest part of this one ... in the 2nd 6-3 stretch forward for Circleville Briley Cramer picked up his first fg of the game (2pts) ... Ian Warden adding a 2 pointer along with Search getting his 2nd fg of the game down low vs Clary ... the only other pts for CHS was 1/2 from the FT line by Baker Kidwell ... the Blue Devils looked comfortable in the offense - Clary being the key as the offense for GAHS looked to get the big man the ball on the blocks ... when he was out on the floor , off the blocks Clary looked to find the open player on the perimeter or cutting to the rim ... keeping it simple ... 5 players got on the board in the 2nd qtr for GAHS ... Franklin matched his 1st qtr output with a open triple off of a Clary assist and a drive to the rim for 2 pts (5pts in the period/10 in the half) sr Brody Fellure added 5 pts/ a deuce and 3/4 from the line ... 2points each for Wesley Saunders off the bench/Clary on the blocks/ 6-3 jr Carson Wamsley with a midrange jumper ... a 16-7 second period for GAHS opened a 10 point Blue Devils advantage going into the locker rooms ... Gallia Academy 25 Circleville 15 at the half ... Circleville needed points from Cramer/ Search if they were going to get back in this one - a 10 point deficit isn't insurmountable but there was nothing shown by CHS in the opening half that indicated they had the firepower on this day to cut into the lead ... as the 3rd period opened, Cramer got an open perimeter look for a deep 3, Gallia matched the Cramer trey with Jance Lambert drilling a corner triple of his own ... have to play D if your going to get back into it and make 3's stand up to cut into a lead ... Cramer took the ball to the rim for 2pts (5 in the qtr) ... 8pts was as close as CHS got the rest of the game as GAHS pushed the lead to 12 by outscoring the Tigers 11-9 in the period ... after Cramer's 5pts, CHS got 2 points from Search on a putback bucket ... FTs from Drew Thornsley 1/2 and Matt Bradley 1/2 ... not enough as Gallia Academy worked like a machine dumping the ball into the paint to Clary who found Fellure twice at the foul line, the sr 2 guard dropped into the paint for a pair of easy buckets (4pts) ... Clary hit a Wilt Chamberlin-like 6 footer off the backboard for 2pts to end the quarter ... Gallia Academy 36 Circleville 24 after 3 quarters ... in the 4th Circleville put up 10 points the biggest quarter point output for the Tigers of the game ... Search with a putback bucket & 2pts in the paint (4pts) ... Nolan West hit his 3rd three pointer for the game (3pts) and Briley Cramer added 3 pts ... as the Tigers were forced to up the defensive pressure ... vs a veteran team such as GAHS this opened the floor up where double teaming Clary in the paint wasn't an option - Clary answered with 8 points in the paint ... Wamsley added a nice putback basket and Lambert drained his 2nd trey of the half (3pts) ... off the bench sr Alex Blair added a transition 2 pointer to put a wrap on the game and send Gallia Academy into District play vs Fairfield Union - a team they beat at FU 38-36 in the regular season ... Gallia Academy 51 Circleville 34 a final

Pleasure to watch the game with you, as always.

Circleville will be very interesting moving forward, Cramer and Search are outstanding pieces to build the team around for 23/24

When Gallia buys in defensively, they are a tough out.

He is a freshman! Added to varsity late in the season Gonna be a player to watch the next 3 years! You'll definitely put his name down a lot!
