Bishop Ready 48
Fairfield Union 33 a final

... Elite 8, you just come off of playing 2 of the best defensive games played this post season at the Convo ... the reward for your efforts if you are Fairfield Union? - 27-0 Bishop Ready ... FU had met the challenge of defending a New Lexington team in the District Final that wanted to penetrate - dish, get to the rim, kick out for 3 - shutdown 41-58 FU ... in the regional semi's Tri Valley with stud jr post player Terrell Darden -spread the floor to take away FU rotations on the defensive end, allowing Darden to get in the paint/to the rim 24 points BUT the FU defense shutdown the rest of the TV team - 9 points total for the game ... the Falcons with enough Offense to earn the right to play for the chance to advance to the Final 4 ... Bishop Ready is a different animal - the most complete TEAM I've seen this season -a starting 5 that can ALL score - keeps teams from double teaming anywhere ... 3 players who can be THAT guy on any given night - Luke Ruth/Charlie Russell/Kaleb Schaffer ... the Silver Knights go 9 deep in their rotation off the bench ... 27-0 speaks for itself - no hype needed ... Fairfield Union would have their hands full ... th Falcons were decided underdogs ...

... Napkin stats that showed up in the FU games vs New Lex and vs Tri Valley that were covered up in that FU got the W's ... but looking at the stats, they were to be exploited by "next level " teams - Bishop Ready - a definite NEXT LEVEL team ... PnT - points in transition : FU only 2 fgs in the 2 prior games at the Convo off opposing team turnovers - everything FU put on the board was through their offense ...Pbk /offensive boards - putback buckets either FU made the shots or the opposition was going the other way - only 2 fgs on putback buckets from offensive misses ... the most glaring napkin stat in the 2 FU wins in the Convo that the Falcons got away with BUT could be exploited - Turnovers ... 31 FU turnovers in 2 games ... that's a lot of shots on goal that NEVER went up for FU ... turnovers - on ball, perimeter pressure go hand in hand ... something to watch ...

... the opening quarter was a prelude to the scoring story for the game as FU opened the game with 6-6 sr Ted Harrah getting a putback bucket at the rim along with 2/2 from the free throw line (4pts) ... sr PG Brennen Rowles added a drive to the rim (2pts) to give the Falcons their 6 pts in the period ... missing for FU were points from the 3 amigos - Caleb Redding/Caleb Schmelzer/ Ronnie Rowley - scoreless after one ... for the Silver Knights of BR the big man on the napkin stat sheet was sr 6-3 Charile Russell with 2 fgs at the rim and step back 3 pointer from beyond the 3 point line (7pts) ... 6-5 sr in the paint Kaleb Schaffer was open deep hitting BR's 2nd trey of the quarter (2/3 from 3 in the 1st) ... Bishop Ready 10 Fairfield Union 6 after 1 ... How did FU do with the napkin stats that were hidden in the FU wins? turnovers - 3 (no transition buckets for BR) ... 1 putback fg ... trailing by -4 ... the opening 2 quarters looked similar to the Tri Valley game for FU as they were giving up points to 1 player - Darden for TV (24 pts) and last night Charlie Russell for BR - after putting up 7 points in the 1st Russell looked comfortable, knew he had a good matchup as he stepped outside for 2 more three pointers and a bucket in the paint (8 pts/15 for the half) ... the only other fg for Ready was a Josh Paul triple (3pts) to go with 1/2 from the FT line off the bench by freshman Uthman Sherif ... Coach Shaeffer's Falcon went yard in the 2nd as FU found the range from deep going 5/5 from downtown ... Ronnie Rowley 2/2 from three (6pts) , 1 trey apiece from Brennen Rowles/Caleb Redding/Isaac Schmelzer off the bench ... Ted Harrah added a bucket down on the block (2pts) ...an 18-12 FU advantage in the scoring department for 2nd period ... no FU turnovers - take care of the ball, get shots on goal ... the FU big 3 scoring wise - Redding/Schmelzer/Rowley chipped in 10 points ... Fairfield Union 24 Bishop Ready 22 at intermission ... when you are offensively challenged to score points and have to rely on your D - keeping it close, not letting the opposition get out in front by multiple possession is a must ... so far so good for Fairfield Union ... 16 more minutes to the Final 4 ... coming out of the locker room FU could not get shots to fall at the offensive end scoring only 2 fgs/5 points in the first 6 minutes of the 3rd ... Bishop Ready adding 9 in the same time frame taking a 31-29 lead with 2:06 on the clock ... Brennen Rowles hit his 2nd triple of the game, with 2 in the paint fgs coming from Caleb Schmelzer 2pts/his first fg of the game and Ted Harrah 2pts ... for the Silver Knights Russell was held to 4pts in the period (1 fg and 2/2 from the line) he was picked up scoring wise by 6-2 sr Luke Ruth 6pts - one on an inbounds return pass to the corner for a trey and nice fade away down low for 2 pts to go with 1/2 from the line (6pts) ... 6-5 center Schaffer added 2 fgs in the paint (4pts) as BR got separation outscoring FU 14-7 in the period ... FU had turned the ball over 4 times/ held to only 3 fgs in the qtr... the big 3 of Schmelzer/Redding/Rowley held to 2 points ... Bishop Ready 36 Fairfield Union 31 after 3 ... 2 possession game, Fairfield Union was still IN it ... defense still wins championships ... but when you are playing from behind points are a must to go with defense that must get stops ... Bishop Ready turned out to have the defense in this game as the Silver Knights took away the FU offense as the Falcons could only get 1 fg in the 4th period - 2points in the paint from Caleb Schmelzer ... BR forced 6 FU turnovers ... Caleb Schaffer with the only 2 fgs for BR (4pts) to go with the Knights getting 8/8 FT shooting in the final period - 2 each by Ruth/Russell/Kayden Schaffer and Paul ... in the 2nd half FU was turned over 10 times to BRs 3 ... held to a total of 4 fgs ... defense DOES win 'ships ... the Silver Knights are going to the Final Four ... Bishop Ready 48 Fairfield Union 33 a final ...

Very good game and effort from the Falcons. They have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about

Just got worn down late and Ready took full control due to that

Great game, FU held their own and was right there up until a few minutes to go.
