Surprisingly,I seen his mom post a couple days ago not one offer yet .

There is no doubt he could play for several schools and he is also a great student also.

I think some offers will start coming in though

There's another twist and turn in the saga of DeAndre Berry's career point total.......he now has 983, as opposed to the 977 that I had previously posted. The total numbers have been changing almost daily, and it's hard to keep up with the latest figures. Needing only 17 points now, DeAndre has an excellent chance to reach that 1,000 point milestone Friday vs. Gallia Academy. The fewest points in a game that Berry has scored this year has been 15 vs. Chesapeake.

DeAndre will be joining this exclusive club:

Kyre Allison............1,688 (2016)
Craig Tubbs............1,485 (1979)
Larry Hisle.............1,375 (1965)
Kendal Reynolds......1,341 (2018)
Patrick Tubbs..........1,297 (1988)
Jeff Lisath.............1,256 (1978)......current Trojan head coach
Wayne Evans...........1,096(2012)
Dion McKinley..........1,096 (2012)
Matthew Fraulini......1,096 (2020)
Damond Mannon.......1,057 (1992)
Phil Whitehead.........1,027 (1991)

Also these players scored at least 1,000 points for their career but not all at PHS. Exact totals not known.

Kenny Sanderlin........1,015 (2023).......Wheelersburg and Portsmouth
Andrew Bendolph......1,000+ (2011).....Wheelersburg and Portsmouth

A win tomorrow vs. Gallia Academy would give the Trojans the 86th season of at least 10 wins. If PHS can get to 15 wins, it would be the 34th time to reach that mark, and a 17 win season would be the 46th time that's happened. PHS has won 20 or more games 19 times. It would also be 2 wins away from Portsmouth's 81st winning season, and the 13th time that a 1st year PHS coach will have had a winning season.

Also, projecting ahead for DeAndre Berry, if he continues at the 25.8 PPG avg for the next 12 games (assuming the Trojans will play at least 2 tournament games, he would end up with 1,292 points, 5 behind 5th all time scorer Patrick Tubbs. Of course if PHS makes a long tourney run, he would be in the 1,300+ range. To continue to average 25.8 PPG will be tough to do, especially with so many games left.

Every kid at every coach should have the same goals I would think, and the kids exact words was "it's our goal" not like he said they was going to win it.

I know coach Collins and coach Lisath both talk about state titles being the goal as soon as summer ball starts .

Anyone that keeps up with high school basketball in this area knows how hard it is to win a state championship or even make it to state.

Portsmouth high School is still the last school in South Eastern Ohio to WIN a game in the state game, and that's been a 12 years ago very hard to get there and even harder to win there

Gotta beat a terrible GAHS team at home if you have aspirations for a state title.

Once again the home court of Trojan Arena was not friendly to the Trojans, as Gallia Academy's Kenyon Franklin hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Blue Devils a 60-57 win over Portsmouth. PHS led 16-11 after 1 quarter, but after that GAHS controlled the tempo of the game and eventually pulled out to an 8 point lead. Portsmouth fought back to tie it with just 17 seconds left, but after a wild scramble for the ball, the Blue Devils managed to find Franklin in the left corner and he drained the game winner.

With the loss, Portsmouth is now 9-4 on the season, and 5-3 in the OVC. The Trojans missed out on a great opportunity to tie for the OVC lead with South Point's loss to Chesapeake. PHS also lost an OVC game at home for the 13th time in the last 19 games. Home losses are killing the Trojans' chances of ever competing for an OVC title. PHS is 2-3 at home this season in OVC play. Portsmouth's only road loss was at Wheelersburg.

DeAndre Berry scored 31 points and passed the 1,000 point mark, with his career total now at 1,014. In the last 2 games, Berry has scored 71 of Portsmouth's 129 points, over half. The Trojans are simply not getting enough scoring support from the rest of the players. If that continues, it will not bode well going forward.

Portsmouth hosts a very good North Adams team tonight, and if the Trojans play vs. NA like they did vs. GAHS, the Green Devils will hand PHS yet another home loss and it won't be close. For some reason, the Trojans seem to play better on the road, and right now are 3-0 in the OVC playing away from Trojan Arena.

Gotta imagine fired up at 6 a.m. doesn’t get you ready to play 14 hours later.

What was very frustrating about last night is that Portsmouth won at Gallia Academy 65-47 earlier this season. I don't know what the problem is, but there is a problem with the Trojans winning at home in the OVC.

With the loss to GAHS, Portsmouth dropped from a tie for 2nd to alone at 5th at 5-3. PHS hasn't finished higher than 5th in the OVC since 2018, and hasn't won the conference title since 2015. Gallia was is now 2-6 in the OVC after their win.

The Portsmouth JV dropped to 4-7 after a 39-36 loss to the GAHS JV.

I’d say those state title hopes took a hit this weekend for the Trojans. Getting back into the top half of the OVC should probably be where the goals shift to.

Hey kids, don’t have goals for yourself. And if you do, if things go awry, quit on those goals.
