What do we have for tomorrow night, opening night of the first full weekend of hoops in the 2024 portion of the season ?

4 weeks in the books, all of the teams having had runs in the football season should be fully transitioned over to basketball mode ... going to time to get out and see the top 20 teams for round 2 of eye tests - see who's improved individually and as a TEAM ...

Interested in opinions re: the Belpre-Trimble game tonight. Is there a favorite or is this a toss-up?

I'm a BIG fan of Coach Caldwell the Trimble Head Coach - one of the best around with his 600+ wins ... motion offense, physical man2man D, quick hands, Tomcats want to and count on getting out in transition ... USUALLY the big issue is size for Trimble - being able to stop a big presence in the paint for the opposition ... looking at the lineups /matchups size wise Trimble matches up favorably against Coach Leasure's Golden Eagles - Trimble STILL smaller height-wise but they matchup well - then there's the "Trimble Factor" - the THS athletes play with a chip on their shoulder! - they will never quit / or think they can't compete with ANYONE - always admire the athletes at Trimble & Howie can motivate as well as anyone ... I think it will come down to Trimbles' BIG MAN in the middle 6-1 senior Cole Wright 2nd year starter down low, played a lot his sophomore year early due to filling in due to THS injury inside - adds up to CW has seen and played against big, bigger, biggest players over his varsity career ... Wright going up against Belpre's big/ 6-3 Junior Bass - I was impressed with the lefty down low (he might not be a lefty but he was very smooth/fluid with his left hand AND his right) vs South Webster when I saw Belpre at Shawnee State University ... Bass with 12 points while doing a good job on the boards ... so Coleman vs Bass in the paint will be a matchup to watch ... if Trimble can win that matchup - I like the Tomcats to get a W ... BUT home court in Belpre at the Eagles' Nest IS a decided advantage ... Belpre will have to KEEP Trimble from get out in transition - Howie & Co. would like at least double digit scoring in the transition game if THS can get defensive boards & or turn the Eagles over and get those 5-6 transition fgs - Trimble will be golden ... on the other hand if Coach Leasure can hold the Tomcat transition buckets to 2-3, it tells me that BHS is keeping Trimble off the boards - Bass is doing his job and will have 2-3 or more offensive boards for putback buckets ... looking forward to seeing how this one plays out ! good luck to both teams ...
