Minford 58
Wheelersburg 60 a final
... the biggest game on our menu of games last night , Minford entering at 10-1, 3-0 in the SOC3 @ Wheelersburg 10-3, 3-0 in the SOC3 ... winner takes over the top spot in the division ... the Falcons not having lost to a team in the SE District this season ... the Burg with but 1 loss to a team from Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line (not a foreign team from across the Big River) ... Minford with the size advantage (6-5 Bennett Kayser/6-4 Jackson Shoemaker) ... Wheelersburg with the deeper more productive bench (Logan Adkins/Hunter Bivens/Kenyon Evans) - BOTH talking points played roles in the outcome of last night's game ... Wheelersburg 60 Minford 58 a final ...
Last night's game was everything a high school hoops "enthusiast" dreams about, 2 solid teams, both teams ranked in the top 8 in SEOhio, Minford sporting All district, all Ohio PG guard Myles Montgomery ... Minford starting arguably the best trio of juniors in SEO - Montgomery/Jackson/Kayser while the Burg plays in their top 8 rotation players 2 of the best sophomores in SEO - Braylon Rucker/ Landon McGraw with 3 sophomores off the bench - Hunter Bivens/Logan Adkins/Kenyon Evans to go with a solid, junior role player in Xander Mowery ALL held together by senior transfer Devon Lattimore who may be THE best "get to the rim" player in SEO ... a game as hyped, as loaded player wise as this one almost NEVER lives up to the hype BUT fortunately for the SRO crowd at WHS last night - this one DID live up to the hype - both teams fans were IN the game, had something positive to take with them ... Wheelerburg 60 Minford 58 a final ...
Minford had 4 players in double figures scoring - Troy Rhodes played an outstanding offensive game scoring 14 points/ 3 triples ... Myles Montgomery 14 points (held to 10 points UNDER his season ppg average) ... Bennett Kayser 13 points/ the Burg defense made sure ALL of those points were contested which meant the 6-5 junior wasn't able to get uncontested jumpers ... Jackson Shoemaker 14pts/ a solid inside game both scoring and on the boards as the Falcons out rebounded the Burg on the offensive boards getting 7 fgs on putback buckets at the offensive end ... Pica with 3 points about 6 pts under his average and 0 treys for the senior guard ... 0 points off the Falcon bench ... Wheelersburg side of the court ... both floor leaders did what they "got paid to do" - QB1 Rucker 19 points/4 triples ... Lattimore did senior things - put the team on his back in the 3rd and 4th periods - got to the rim for 4 drives finishing at the rim/8 points in the 4th period/14 points in the 2nd half of play ... the WHS bench - Adkins/Bivens put up 9 points in the game ... as a TEAM Wheelersburg kept the lead at all quarter breaks, absorbed the Falcon runs that gave Minford a 47-46 lead with 6:56 left in the 4th ... defensively kept the ball out of Montgomery's hands with 5 sec to play and an opportunity to tie or win the game as time ran out ... Wheelersburg 60 Minford 58 a final ...
... Do over on February 9th @ Minford ...
