Scoring 1000 points-Is it that hard to achieve anymore?

If you scored 1000 points before the 3 point line you were a player. Now days a lot of coaches leave their kids in during blow outs to add to their total. Other teams take out their starters but then the 1000 point kid for the other team is still in the game. A lot of different opinions on this.

Clay Panthers had 3 1,000 point scorers in the same season. No wonder they went to the regional championship game.

If you start as a Sophomore and you play 25 games, 22 regular season and a minimum of 3 tournament games, you only have to average 13.4 points a game for those three years worth of games.

If you are a decent player I just don't think that is hard to achieve. With the 3 point shot just doesn't seem like a big deal

Now scoring 2000 points would be quite the feat. You would then have to average 26.8 points per game over that same time period.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Quite the accomplishment in my opinion. I feel that my HS career was fairly successful, and I couldn't see 1,000 pts with a 10x pair of binoculars. lol

Didn't Kyler D'Augustino from Alexander score >2,000pts?

Lots of factors though: (1) coaching style, (2) teammates, (3) health, (4) skill level of upper classmen... etc.

I can remember a VERY good Oak Hill Oaks team under the coaching of Mr. Norm Persin circa 2017-18'ish, and they might have only had 1 player reach 1,000pts? They had 3 or 4 4-year starters, and at least 2 very successful years. BUT, they often won games by only scoring 40-some pts as a team. That was their style of play/coaching. I think you could've taken 3 or 4 of those players, put them under a different "style" of coaching/team dynamic, and they EASILY score 1,000pts.

Just so many factors... nonetheless, huge accomplishment in this HS bball fan's eyes.

Another note, a true blowout game is pretty much at halftime or the third quarter now with the all time running clock when a team is up thirty in the 2nd half.

Might not be as big of an accomplishment today as it was in eariier years, however there’s still very, very few players - boys or girls - who accomplish this feat.

It’s easier at a smaller school also. Hard to get in the lineup and harder to score on and against perineal power teams. If you are solid you will start as a freshman at a d4 schoo and sit at a d1 or d2 school. A lot of kids pad their numbers playing against kids who would be on the bench elsewhere. We see it a lot around here for sure but don’t have state level team success on the flip side.
