Fairland 64 Eastern Brown 61 a final ...

Post by pfloyd »

Great game! great call by the SOSA talent as well !!! many thanks to SOSA for traveling literally everywhere in SEO to bring us the best of the games on any given night (a couple of times per week both boys and girls) throughout the hoops season AND will be doing the same in the post season, right into the district play at the Convo !!!

Last night Fairland @ Eastern Brown, Coach Speed with more than 300 wins to his resume' and Coach Beucler with over 450 wins , 2 teams wanting to go into the post season with momentum - not sure you could NOT HAVE anything but a great game in Winchester @ Eastern Brown ...

Quarter Break Scores:

Fairland ............6 .... 23 ....39 ....64
Eastern Brown....14.....25 .....35 ...61

... the Warriors of Coach Beucler started the game using their size advantage to "take control" of the paint and the game early on - Luke Haney took the ball straight to the rim from inside the paint - getting fouled - 1/2 from the line ... on the blocks/inside the paint set the tone for EB as 6-3 soph guard Grady Barber used his bulk to bully himself to the block for a lefthanded shot for 2pts/ this was followed by a Haney putback bucket 2pts, 5-0 EB lead ... the script says if it worked once, do it until it doesn't work - Barber followed with 2 more fgs using his size advantage to get to the rim ... the only Fairland offense was a 2 pt midrange jumper by Brody Buchanan ... 4:49 Eastern Brown 9 Fairland 2 ... once you get the opposition trying to keep you from getting to the rim, it opens up the long range weaponry as Wyatt Haupt drained a 2 pter from midrange and Kade Walkup ended the EB scoring with a deep three pointer after a Haney kickout ... Fairland was cold from the perimeter as the Dragons went 0/5 from beyond the arc ... vs a defensive minded team as Coach Beulcer's Warriors who have the size inside to force opponents to the perimeter to score - not being able to hit from the outside is costly, making a living trying to get inside difficult - the remaining scoring for FHS in the quarter came from Will Davis getting inside the paint for 2 pts and Buchanan stepping inside the arc for a midrange 2 pointer ... Eastern Brown 14 Fairland 6 after 1 ... Coach Speed for Fairland has the luxury of having 2 of the best if not THE best pair of shooting/scoring guards in Southeastern Ohio - Chase Allen/Brody Buchanan ... not blessed with size both in the 5-9 to 5-10 range ... both however are shooters/scorers of the basketball as both can drill the 3 ball , both can hit the midrange jumper, both can get into the paint and finish ... probably the biggest attribute of the duo is they are both "tough as nails/hard-nosed" willing to take a hi "players" ... as scorers - you live by the mantra that "the next one is going in ..." the Dragons were 0/5 in the opening quarter ... as the 2nd quarter unfolded Fairland fell behind 24-13 with 2:52 left in the period ... EB was led by Barber's 3pts, Walkup & Haupt each getting into the paint for drives to the rim , all surrounding a Haney long 2 pointer that was counted as a 3 pter officially ... Fairland plays in a league, the OVC, where you are challenged every night you take the court ... teams in the OVC all have the capability to "blow you out" as they all get up and down the court, all seem to be able to hit the 3 ball and all force you to bring your "A" game or go home with an "L" on your pocket-schedules ... in the final 2:52 having struggled from beyond the arc most of the half ... the Dragons got a "pick us up" 3 from Trevor Lochow off the bench ... a midrange jumper from Brycen Hunt ... back to back 3 pointers from the Allen/Buchanan duo ... as the smoke cleared - the Dragons had gotten 5 points each from Chase Allen & Brody Buchanan (5pts each in the period) a combo 5 points from the Lochow 3pts & Hunt 2pter and a Will Davis midrange jumper 2pts ... a 17-11 scoring advantage for Fairland in the period had closed the gap/made the game doable, the perimeter scoring, the "scorers - Allen/Buchanan" had negated the inside advantage of the Warriors ... Eastern Brown 25 Fairland 23 at intermission ... on the road, surviving the inside game of your opponent/getting your "scorers" finding the bottom of the net gets Big MO on your side of the court ... coming out of the locker rooms after intermission the Dragons had momentum, momentum to build on ... the Big 3 offensively for Fairland took over in the 3rd as Will Davis the 6-1 senior, who may be one of the most underrated players in SEO (not in the OVC however) did Will Davis "things" - the senior played the tight D, picked the pockets of 2 different ballhandlers, taking both opportunities to the rim for transition buckets (4pts) ... Buchanan and Allen continued to score the rock both hitting 3rd period 3 pointers , both stepping off the 3 point line and getting midrange buckets, Buchanan with an added bucket in the paint ... a 16 point quarter for the Dragons gave FHS the lead ... EB but for 2 long range 3 pointers by Drew Edmiston would have been down double digits heading into the final quarter ... Eastern Brown 35 Fairland 39 after 3 ... Eastern Brown is led by Coach Rob Beucler , more than 450+ wins ... Beucler teams play D, don't get rattled and don't throw in the towel ... Fairland could not put EB away, multiple times with 6 point leads in the 4th but either an FHS turnover or EB takeaway kept the Warriors within 1 -2 possessions the entire quarter ... at 6:17 Fairland led 43-39 ... 5:02 Fairland up 44-43 ... 1:07 Fairland 57 EB 53 ... scoring in the period for Eastern Brown Grady Barber 9pts with a pair of putback buckets & 3/4 from the line ... Drew Edmiston 5pts including a 3 ball ... Luke Haney 6pts ... Pryce Murphy 6pts including a transition bucket off an inbounds steal with under 25 seconds to play to draw EB even at 61-61 ... Fairland was led in the 4th and final period by Chase Allen's 13 points including 3/6 from the line ... Will Davis 4pts with his 3rd transition bucket on a takeaway ... Noah Marcum drained a 3 pointer in the middle of the 4th for his first 3 points of the game ... after the Murphy completion of the transition 2 pointer to tie the game at 61-61 with 20+ sec to play ... the Murphy bucket actually allowed Fairland to "get the ball inbounds" (as FHS had 2 straight turnovers when EB was able to set up defensively after made shots ) ... the Dragons got the inbounds to Marcum , Davis brought the ball up court, passed out the double team to Allen who drove the paint, dished to Lochow who turned and kicked the ball out to Marcum beyond the 3 point line ... the senior drained the 3 ball ! a Barber miss off the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded - Dragons with the W ! ... Fairland 64 Eastern Brown 61 a final ...
