I was not able to catch this game. But impressed with Marietta so far this year. They play a fun brand of basketball, and will give a lot of teams trouble.

Marietta should not be one of the top teams in SE Ohio this season. Not sure I’d say it is a “fun” brand of basketball, but coaching is first-rate and the players really buy in. They won’t win anything near the games they won last year, but it appears they’ll be competitive.

Warren kept it closer than I thought they would, but still a huge early season win. This Marietta team is talented, deep, and very well coached. Big test on the horizon for the Tigers, as old ECOL foe New Philly comes to Sutton Gym on Tuesday night.

Can you explain your comment? Who said anything about any team being “bad”. Both are solid teams, I just thought Warren based on experience and impact from graduation should be better.

Pioneer, I realize you follow Marietta basketball closely, but did you actually regard the Tigers as the favorite? Warren has everybody back except one and more experience and size. Agree that coaching can make huge difference, and Marietta is fortunate in that department. This team plays hard and as a team, but if they win more than 13 or 14 games won't this be another over-achieving season? Or maybe I'm just underrating what's happening along the river?

Hookshot, my comment about Warren keeping it closer than I thought was kind of made in jest. I think most, if not all, Washington County basketball fans had Warren as the favorite going into last night’s matchup. I was not, however, very surprised Marietta won, especially after watching them run Fort Frye out of the gym up in Beverly last Tuesday.

I understand where OP is coming from to an extent. Marietta lost some very good players to graduation, but it’s not fair to discredit this team based solely on that. Marietta has plenty of returning experience plus a really nice addition in Junior Bass. This year’s team is obviously going to look a lot different than last year’s, but we still have a lot of talent and a coaching staff that knows how to get the best out of the players.

Marietta just took care of business against the #2 team in pfloyd’s preseason rankings. To say they shouldn’t be one of the best teams in SE Ohio this season, following this result, just doesn’t make sense to me.

I think most people thought going into the season Warren would be a solid favorite over Marietta, and that the Tigers would be expected to have winning season but not among the top several teams in the region. Who knows, its early. I agree that no one should "discredit" this team or its players. And yes, they do have a tough assignment with New Philly coming to town Tuesday night.

The thing I noticed that could potentially hurt Marietta throughout the season is foul trouble….Wittekind and Bass seem to pick up fouls quick. If they figure that out, I see a superb season out of the Tigers.

In my opinion, Warren struggled. What if Stadleman wasn’t so slippery? What if he wasn’t hitting? They need another kid to step up. Barry is a capable double digit scorer but he plays stiff at times and is streaky. Sealey can lead but is more of a role player. Lupardus is capable with his back to the basket against guys his size but otherwise has to have offense created for him. Cressy is athletic but can pick up quick fouls (second leading scorer v Etta). Wells has to have offense created for him. The list goes on. But the real weapon is Warren’s coaching staff. They are a fantastic group of coaches and will put the kids in favorable positions as the season progresses. I’m rooting for you, Warren.

Regardless how many games, why wouldn’t he play if he was deserving? You do what’s best for students you are entrusted to serve. My opinion.

Regardless how many games, why wouldn’t he play if he was deserving? You do what’s best for students you are entrusted to serve. My opinion.

I agree you do what is best for the kids. I had a kid play for me one year that could do that and we played him. Just depends on the kid. He was a junior and actually ended up graduating early and not playing the following year.

I'll do my best to make one. I moved out of the area last year so I'm mostly restricted to watching games online, thank god for technology. I will say, there are a few more athletes in the central Ohio area but for the most part the atmosphere is better back home! Now getting my boys to come with me is next to impossible, one has kids and the other is all work and girlfriend and they live one hour and two hours away from me. your livestream is $10 a game btw!
