thanks R-STREAK ... thought that Westfall MIGHT give PHS a little better game than this score BUT there is sooooo much up side to this Piketon Squad -inside/outside scoring, ball handling, defensive pressure, "heady" leadership ON the court in Legg, throw in Farmer's size/length ... when all cylinders are hitting - there will be a lot of scores like tonight for this Piketon team ... fun to watch this years TEAM ...

... I went to A'town to see the Warren Warriors take on the Athens Bulldogs tonight ... WHS had took much size, strength, quicks, for Athens to compete against in this one ...Warren played everyone in the scorebook and one who wasn't! and still picked up the W tonight going away ... Warren Local 56 Athens 31 ...a final ...

Not enough bodies available for Athens to compete against the host of players that Coach Maddox can put on the floor ... as Warren played 11 different players in the first half alone ... Warrens defense held AHS to one and done on the offensive end of the floor as the Warriors held the Bulldogs to 2 field goals in the entire first half! (1st qtr 2 fgs & 5 pts/2nd qtr. 0 fgs & 4 pts) ... with the top 11 players rotating in/out for Warren the first 3 quarters tonight AHS knocked down but 4 field goals for a total of 14 points thru 3 quarters of action ... on the offensive side of the floor for Warren Austin Cunningham controlled the tempo of the game hitting for 19 points, Venham added 10 while 8 more Warriors contributed to the final WHS total ... Warren 56 Athens 31 final ...

... Athens Napkin Stats ...

Scorers ... Maxson 7, Stimmel 4, Stanley 4, Maffin 3, Harris 3
3pointers ... 3/12 ... Maffin/Harris/#40 each 1
FT's ... 10/16
TOs ... 14

... for Athens to have any shot at beating a team the quality of this Warren squad lots of good things had to be happening on the court - the 3 ball had to be going down (it didn't), dogs had to be able to hold their own on the boards (didn't happen) ... without either an outside threat or rebounding at either end of the floor Athens could not compete with this Warren.2010 version ...

...Warren Napkin Stats ...

Scoring ... Austin Cunningham 19, Venham 10, Knost 5, Winland 6,Ward 3,Henthorn 2, Mitchem 2
3pointers ... 1/5 ... Ward 1
FT's ... 9/18 ouch!!!
TOs ... 13 - considering everyone on the roster and then some played a great total ...

Offensive Putbacks for points 5
Transition baskets ... 7
Points in the Paint ... 20 fg/40 points in the paint ...

... pfloyd's observations ... WHS is loaded with talent, strength, AC is playing under control in running the floor show for the Warriors ... AC can get where he wants on the floor whenever he wants to get there ... although in tonights game the perimeter shots weren't taken and not needed (1/5 from downtown) the Blue has players who CAN hit the trey (Ward/Cunningham/Hastie) ... inside Venham is a man among boyz , should be able to get position on anyone in the league with his body and strength - the key will be how much of a factor does Venham want to be in a game? IF he decides he wants to control the paint HE CAN , has the tools to do it; IF he decides to let others do the work? let's just say THAT is noticeable as well - Warren WILL GO as far as Venham wants to take them, the paint is HIS house and NO BODY enters HIS house without his say so - protect your house Mr. Venham your TEAM has a great season in front of you/them ... Coach Maddox!!! what is up with that 9/18 from the FT line????????

... will continue to keep an eye both of these two teams in their respective leagues as the season continues toward the New Year ... was good meet up with some fine Warriors followers - I thank you all for the wishes of good health , it's greatly appreciated ...

Unioto 60
Southeastern 45

Southeastern came into this game at full strength for the 1st time all season and that lasted about a minute and a half. Michael Brown and Tyler Osbourne made their season debuts at the 6 minute mark of the opening quarter. Osborne made a great move to get to the hole for a bucket and the next trip, Brown made a nice move on the inside for a duece, but that would be his only attempt as he was injured on the very next trip. Looked like a sprained ankle and hopefully he'll be back sooner than later, he's a very good player and a major key for the Panthers.
Unioto jumped out to a 22-8 lead after a quarter, pushing the ball and getting many good looks. Unioto also led at the break 32-22. SE started the 2nd half on a 5-0 run to get to the closest that they had been since the Brown injury. Unioto would keep a 7-8 point lead for the rest of the night until FT's down the stretch wrapped things up for them.
Brick Davis led Unioto with 17 points, followed by Christian Dunkle's 15. Nick Rose added 9 points and most importantly great energy and effort off the bench. Osbourne had 12 points for the Panthers, while Steven Hall added 10.

In Paint Valley's 40-37 win over Huntington, Logan Markko kept up his outstanding play(18ppg and 12rpg thus far) to lead the Bearcats to a 3-0 start. Dylan Gragg had 15 and 13 in a losing effort.

Adena 42
Zane Trace 59

SVC Standings

Paint Valley 2-0, 3-0
Piketon 2-0, 3-0
Unioto 2-0, 3-0
Zane Trace 2-0, 2-1
Adena 0-2, 0-3
Huntington 0-2, 1-3
Southeastern 0-2, 0-3
Westfall 0-2, 1-2

Only 2 undefeateds will remain after Tuesday, as Piketon travels to PV and Unioto travels to ZT in a couple of big early season matchups.

I may have to go down to ZT to see Unioto play Tuesday night - I want to give them their just dues in the rankings, seeing them play is the only fair way to put this seasons UHS squad where they need to be on the lists ...

Here's the stats for the Peake vs Gallia game. McMaster sat out the second qtr with 2 fouls. Kennedy sat out some in the third. ALL starters were pulled with about 5 minutes to go. Was the most intense defense I have seen them play...including last year. Great way to open the season.

... ovc fan thanks for the link - great stuff right there as the Peake and Coach Davis have it right - it's all about the defensive effort a team brings to the court every night out ... Patrick Hintz with 10 points is a player I will be watching the box scores for all season - as much as I enjoyed watching Peter Hintz game the past two seasons I feel that brother Patrick has more to offer on the offensive end - IF Patrick is good for a 10 spot each time out look out, you have 6 legitimate double figure scorers, opponents will have to play the 5 on the floor man up vs being able to double down on McMaster/Copley/Kennedy ... defense/offense to burn -got to be some smiles on the Peake supporter faces ... looking forward to getting a chance to see this years version of the Panthers soon ...

Southern won 66-47

But I can't seem to find a South Gallia score? maybe they didn't play (Wahama had to postpone the Fed Hock game; perhaps they did the same with S.G.)
