They are talking about is Tom Barrick, the former head coach from Wheelersburg who stepped down after the 2012-2013 basketball season. He is an assistant this year at Portsmouth East. I don't believe he ever helped out at Valley last year.

Another good scrimmage last night in Frenchtown between Unioto, Minford, and Vinton County.

If all teams played with the same pace as these 3 played last night, we would have some very high scoring games. All 3 showed some very nice strengths and some manageable weaknesses. I look for all 3 to have very solid years and be fun teams to watch. The young backcourt for VC looked greatly improved from a year ago, while Minford will still be very solid despite a couple of BIG losses to graduation.

Fun scrimmage tonight between Unioto and Portsmouth. After 4 intense quarters, Portsmouth won by 5, scoring the final 5 points of the 4th quarter. You could tell that the kids knew the situation, which made it all the more fun to watch.

Both teams were without a starter, which kept things even IMO. Allison and Oliver got to the line early and often, while Unioto used their outside game greatly and also used Hosley more tonight than in the other two outings. Each team won 2 quarters and they tied 2 quarters, with only the last being a blowout while the Trojan regulars were done for the night (Unioto's bench played outstanding tying in the 5th, not missing a beat)

You could tell it was early on, but also how talented both of these squads are and I imagine both will be much improved with the additions of Strange and Williams when they return.

Jottings: The game with Gallia Academy is listed on our schedule for Dec. 5th.

danicalifornia: Good assessment of the scrimmage last night. For a scrimmage, it certainly was fun to watch (pfloyd's #1 and #3 preseason teams). I was really impressed with Unioto........the Shermans have size, depth, shooters, and ballhandlers. They can beat you with their perimeter game, or kick it down low to their post players. Coach Hoops can bring in quality off the bench also. For the Trojans to squeeze out a win against this very good Shermans team makes me feel good about our kids. We were outsized, but battled on the boards with UHS. Allison and Oliver were both outstanding, and when Kendall Reynolds comes back from his hand injury, that will give us another playmaker at both ends of the court. Great to see Alex Dickerson provide some much needed offense, as he knocked down 4-5 trifectas. The Trojans bench played respectable, and will get better as the season goes.

Floyd...Have not been able to find a pocket schedule f or SEO teams. I've got all the SEOAL team schedules except Logan and Jackson. Thanks, Hobe. (Tonight the Gallipolis school board may vote on Gallia's sports future. Hate to see 90 years of history end).

At least 2 sources close to the Gallia Academy administration believe that the Gallia Academy BOE will IN FACT vote in favor tonight of joining the OVC.

Thus, Gallia Academy ends over 90 years as a member of the SEOAL.

Foundation Game tonight at Unioto

Unioto 72
Chillicothe 60

Tommy Bolte is absolutely dynamite! He came alive in the 3rd Q and kept the Cavaliers in the game, but Unioto's depth kept a comfortable lead at no less than 6 throughout the 2nd half. Unioto was led by Erique Hosley with 18 and 9, while getting solid contributions from all 9 that played, including Nick Corcoran playing a completely different game than he did last year and stuffed the stat sheet.

An outstanding crowd showed up for a great cause (the Maria Tiberi Foundation for defensive driving) and I believe both teams should have great seasons ahead of them.

I agree...fun game to be at. Hosely will be key as to how far Unioto will go in the tournament. He did very well against an athletic Chillicothe team. Unioto is very deep, it will be interesting to see how they click with different looks out on the court. I thought Cottrill was the best shooter for the U. Strange played well too, he just needs to slow down at times, he gets in a hurry a lot and turns the ball over. The transfer is going to be a good player as well. Not sure what was up with Corcoran tonight, didn't seem like he had the scorer instinct that he had all of last year. Unioto should breeze through the SVC.
As far as Chillicothe....they had a ton of nice looks at the basket, just couldn't seem to hit. Bolte is a good player, definitely a floor general. It would be nice to see them have another kid who could score to take some of the pressure off him. I thought they played hard, moved the ball around well, and seemed to be well coached. Even #22 responded to the coaching staff after he was almost T'd up for taunting and playing rather "chippy".
