Coach Kelley wrote:Piketon Redstreaks were victorious last night over their nemesis Southeastern Panthers last night 54-40. Southeastern played hard, but the Streaks after a slow start, pulled away the 2nd half. Been a tough week for the streaks; Roof blows off during practice in the wind storm; running sprints in the hallways...But all the distractions, you have to play through and get the wins!.. This win keeps Piketon tied with Westfall for the league title (after Westfall pulled out a 1 pt win at Zane Trace). Piketon was led by Cody Smith and Caleb Southworth. Southworth again played stellar defense on SE's Elam, and puts up 14 pts, 15 rebs. to go along with the defense.

Piketon has 1 more SVC league game next Friday night at rival Unioto. Tonight the Redstreaks will play Vinton County at OU-Chillicothe for a big pre-tourney matchup. Should be a good one. Next week, Friday they play at Unioto to capture at least a share of the SVC title, then Saturday, then finish at home with New Boston (make-up game) on senior night. This game may be played in the old High School Gym due to the damages caused by the wind. We'll update that later.

Piketon:
Cody Smith 21 pts, 5 rebs., 2 steals
Caleb Southworth 14 pts, 15 rebs, 3 blocks
Evan Legg 10 pts, 3 assists, 2 steals

SE:
Willard 13pts
Hahn 8 pts.

... after watching the "football/basketball" games last night between Chillicothe and Logan ... I went to Canal tonight to take in Logan Elm vs Canal Winchester ... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yesssssssssss ... real basketball LOL ... 2 teams that KNOW how to play the game ... great atmosphere - the game had it all great offensive displays from both sides, great defense - real defense ... lousy officiating at times - tried to give the game to CW in the 2nd half BUT LE wouldn't go away, kept it lead with Amann sidelined by his 3rd foul AND a T to give him 4 early in the 3rd quarter ... great game turned in by everyone wearing the away black for LE ... kudos to Adam Blake in handling the pressure applied for 32 minutes by a variety of CW perimeter people (8 pts) ... some timely BIG plays by Pritchard for the Braves in the 4th (12 pts/6 in the 4th period)... throw in the usual cast of character for Coach Stiverson Amann 17 points/Tim Congrove 18 pts./ Hauserman 7 points but a good all around floor game ... wanted to see the Braves play a game on a hostile floor ... they handled the game pressure, the crowd, the officials , the loss of Amann for most of the 2nd half .... bottom line - LE is more than deserving of their Elite 8 number 1 ranking ... Congratulations to Coach Stiverson and the Braves on the BIG W tonight @ CW ...

Glad to see you made the haul up U.S. 33 pfloyd. Two quality programs hooking up for this one. It was a dandy of a game and the LE defense with guarding the ball nicely and getting into passing lanes to help force over 20 turnovers was nice for them too. Add four players in double figures and it's a nice road win. LE can claim at least a share of the MSL title Tuesday at Amanda.

Also a nugget...this was win 150 for Coach Stiverson.

If Canal can cut down on the turnovers, they are a team capable of winning a district championship up in the Central District.

The Cavs go into Reynoldsburg and get a Victory on their senior night 70-67 in OT. Michael Turner scored a career high 26 points. pfloyd, This looked like a completely different team than you saw at Logan. I think Reynoldsburg is a 10 seed in the Central District and they had some studs. If I recall I think the big guy slammed two dunks over our players. But our team refused to lose this game. They had an all state guard named Gray. Caleb Knights did a nice job locking him down throughout the game. Seth Dawes hit some big shots and our young frosh Malik London had a one handed slam dunk that rocked the house. Nice game to watch for sure.

I do concur with the point of VC picking up a good game or two at either the ZT or Chillicothe tournament and even the Wellston or Athens event. It will help them. The league strength probably cost them the top-seed this season in Logan.

Make no mistake about it though, to have the consistency VC has had is the mark of a good program.

Chillicothe plays Waverly & Zanesville twice this week. Zanesville just beat Warren Harding last night. Both teams (chilly & zville) are rolling. The Cavs have to be tired after all of the games they played last week.

Pfloyd the dragons went 2- 1 this week with wins over Coal Grove, Hunt. St. Joe and a loss to a hot shooting River Valley squad putting them at 12-6. If the dragons take care of business Wed. against Rock Hill they will play Chesy for the OVC Fri. at Chesapeake.

Piketon (16-2) with a big win last night over Vinton County (14-3) at the Shoemaker Center at OU-Chillicothe. Piketon won by score of 70-38. Piketon defense was solid, and Vinton County looked out of sync. This was the best performance for Piketon this season, which is a good sign for tourney time. If they play like this, Great things could be in store for the Redstreaks. Very Solid last night. Defensively, 1st half Piketon held VC to 27-8 score..(2 pts from technical foul in warmups from a dunk). I think VC is a good team, but they were overmatched last night.

Piketon:
Cody Smith 19 pts
Jordan Brabson 18pts
Evan Legg 11pts
Caleb Southworth 7pts, 9 rebs, 4 blocked shots.

VC: Jake Prater (DNP)

I think Peebles has a pretty strong case to be in your Elite 8 with another good week with wins over good Fairfield and Manchester ball clubs. From my understanding both games were pretty choppy but they got the W's.
North Adams had another strong week with an 11 point win over Eastern, a win over Manchester 100-75, and a 65-59 close call with Ripley. They've got three more next week and then a showdown with Hillsboro the following Tuesday, right before tourney time.
