danicalifornia: Portsmouth started the season as the 8th winningest program in Ohio, behind #1 Canton McKinley (1,813), #2 Archbold (1,582), #3 Newark (1,517), #4 Middletown (1,474), #5 Delphos St.John's (1,443), #6 Mansfield Senior (1,441), and #7 Canal Winchester (1,438).

Racine Southern started the season at #10 (1,353), Marietta was #20 (1,270), and Peebles was #25 (1,182). Those are the only other SE District schools in the top 30.

Thanks! Canton McKinley's win total in unreal.

Unioto is now 804-802! Our first time being over .500 since 2006-2007. Closing in on Canton McKinley!!

danicalifornia: Canton McKinley has been to the state 28 times, which is #1 in state appearances. They have won 3 state titles, in 1984, 2005, and 2006. It wasn't until their 20th trip that they won their first title in 1984.

Congratulations to your Shermans on getting over that .500 mark. I remember watching them at the state in 1991 with now Vinton County coach Matt Combs playing for them. I believe that Ron Lovely was the coach.

Thank you! Current Unioto girls' coach Jeff Miller was also on that team. Coach Lovely is our boys win leader and his youngest son, Sawyer, is a senior on this year's team. I was lucky enough to play for Coach Lovely, Coach Lisath, and Coach Hoops (lower levels) during my 4 years at Unioto.

I can't wait to watch the Trojans at Waverly and hopefully the Convo. I just hope that they don't matched up with an SVC team at Waverly.

trojandave wrote:Congratulations to the Fairland Dragons on their OVC championship after their 75-72 OT win vs. Portsmouth. The Dragons have a quality club, and start 5 sophomores, so the best is yet to come for them.

VERY PROUD of my Trojans on their effort, and very encouraged to see 26 points by players off the bench (Mike Malone 14, DJ Eley 8, Daniel Jordan 4). All of these kids along with Kendal Reynolds (16) and Reese Johnson (6) return for the Trojans next season. Eley, Jordan, and Johnson are sophomores.

One more win will give Portsmouth (11-7) its 78th winning season since 1913, and winning the last 4 games will give PHS its 43rd season with at least 15 wins. Portsmouth's all time record is 1,412--752, which is tops in wins in the SE district.

This was one of the BEST high school basketball games I've ever seen ,and a great atmosphere to go along with it ,both teams had large crowds and it was loud all night as the game was close all night , I'm hoping these two can meet up at the convo for round 3 that would be the game of the week if it happens.

Floyd I offered to save you a seat ,you missed out on a great one lol. Maybe you will see round 3 if it happens.

Trojandave nice post , very proud of the Trojan Tradition!

By the way ,all 11 points fairland scored in overtime came from free throw line.

They went to foul line 30 times compared to 12 for the Trojans...... Difference in the game.

We also turned the ball over a few times in the 4th

Of course a Logan guy would put Athens at 8.

BTW ... keep an eye on the DIV drawing at Meigs ... I have a feeling coaches voted South Gallia over Trimble - BUT - had the vote taken place in person on Sunday they would have known Trimble beat SG by 10 tonight in Mercerville. They were up by almost 20 at one point in the 2nd half.

Early online voting is a sham, I say.

After a tough week last week the Indians have won 3 in a row on the road and are poised to tackle next weeks games at Ripley away and Lynchburg at home for the shac big school title in a year that some people said peebles did not have anything without Beau. I'm here to say that the things the Indians have experimented with on the court will pay big dividends in the one and done. Good luck to all but more good luck to the 15-5 Indians.

Was it only Unioto, Fairland, and Valley who went through the week unscathed in the Elite 8?

daniC - I just went through this past weeks game results /posted them to the big board ... you are right ONLY Unioto (3-0) , Fairland (2-0), Lucasville Valley (2-0) survived the week without adding an "L" to their handy dandy pocket schedules ... going to be interesting ranking this mess !!! Gotta love it !!!

... looking a little further Chesapeake was 1-1 at the #9 spot , Alexander (2-1) at #10, AND Logan (2-0) with the BIG win over Warren tonight in the #11 could it be ... could the Logan Purple make it's first EVER venture into the Elite 8 !!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my - a 9 loss team in the Elite 8 ?????????!!!!! IF you watched them play tonight - there is a chance ! 10-2 in their last 12 games ... wins over Vinton County AT VC ... the big win to guarantee at least a tie for an SEOAL title tonight over Elite 8 Warren ... a one point loss to Bloom Carroll as one of the losses in this 12 game stretch !!! the other loss to top 4 Fairfield Union ... going to be interesting tomorrow when the rankings come out ... Trimble went 3-0 from the #14 spot, Lynchburg Clay 4-0 at 1#15 but nothing in the win column to push them up the rankings ... Miami Trace had the big win over Washington CH BUT couldn't back it up as they were dismantled by Unioto ...
