Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio ...Feb 7th added

Post by pfloyd »

... the Week that WAS had THE GAME of the Year in SouthEast Ohio - Round #1 ... Chillicothe traveled to Zanesville for the regular season showdown between the Elite 8's numbers 1 and 2 ... no one was disappointed (as a fan of high school hoops) as Chiilicothe came from 11 back in the 4th quarter to force OT before holding onto a 59-58 SEOAL "W" ... the Cavs warmed up for the ville by hammering Jackson 104-40 while Zanesville escaped Logan's Katie Smith Gymnasium with a 58-57 win ... Chillicothe will now prep the Hat as host of the Day of Champions between the North/South division winners ... just like last year it will be Z'ville vs Chillicothe ... Coach K is hoping that just like last year Chillicothe keeps Zanesville from winning an SEOAL hoops crown ... last weeks number 3 Vinton County did nothing but the expected workman like job in picking up wins vs Belpre (67-43) and Philo 65-51 ... congratulations to Dustin Guthrie in joining the 1000 point club for a high school career - if you have ever seen Dut play you know that he has always put TEAM first, that those 1000+ points were ALL within the TEAM concept/flow of the game - great accomplishment DG ... the dualing #4's of Wheelersburg and Huntington HS both kept pace - with the Burg pushing aside Waverly 60-36 while Huntington picked up two BIG W's ... beating Lynchburg Clay 79-74 and Piketon 61-45 ... South Point as last weeks team in the 5 spot moved to 15-0 on the season with wins over Ironton St. Joe (62-47) and Peebles (63-54) ... North Adams played below .500 WhiteOak, NA found the going tough as Coach Hines' club hung an on L on the North Adams boyz 63-61 ... Oak Hill picked up a couple wins before the seeding meetings Sunday , a 64-60 win over Minford and a 16 point beat down of Portsmouth West 58-34 ... Logan Elm used tough defense to hold both of this weeks opponents (Fairfield Union and Miami Trace) to under 40 points each (36,34 respectively) while the LE offense dialed in 51 points each night to go 2-0 for the week ... rounding out last weeks top 8 were Chesapeake and Greenfield McClain ... both teams finished up the week at 1-1 as the Peake lost in a "river rematch" with Fairland in the Championship game of Huntington St. Joe's get together 56-59 ... McClain took on Madison Plains for supremacy in the SCOL ... MP came away the winner 44-36 to take control of the SCOL crown - a crown the boyz of Madison Plains have never worn ...

... there you have the week in review for last weeks Elite 8 teams ... how did the game results shake up the elite list with only 2 weeks of the regular season left to play ??? ...

pfloyd, Here is a link I found on the Huddle. Looks like Zanesville got a nice #3 seed. They have a tough bracket but stay away from some of the stronger teams. With the loss Friday, they could have got bumped to a 4-6 slot. Sounds like the votes came in over the internet all week, so it was a done deal.

GO CAVS!!!

Wow, looks like Lancaster gets handed to Northland right out of the gate. Can't get a worse draw. Curious how Northland does not get a bye in round #1. Never understood the Central Brackets.

GO CAVS!!!

Still dont see how you think that New Boston and East are better than Portsmouth West, West beat both of them by double digets at their place.

West picked up a solid overtime win vs. Northwest, they derserve a little more even though they have a 7-8 and they could win 4 of their last 5 ball game vs. Valley, at Waverly, at Northwest, and vs. South Webster, and they would have to play a very good game to compete in their game vs. the Burg tuesday night at home.

Tournament time is almost here but we also have some regular season to go. We have three interesting matchups up here in the greater Northwest territories.

Tuesday - 13-3 Logan Elm at 10-6 Circleville - important MSL game
Friday - fifth-ranked Huntington invades 8-8 Westfall. This could be the game where Huntington puts away the SVC.

Saturday - 14-2 and highly ranked Canal Winchester at 13-3 Logan Elm - if LE can get past rival Circleville, this game will prob decide the MSL championship.

There you have it from the great, vast Northwest territory.

... I have noticed that Largent for Logan elm has been playing a biiger role at the offensive end ... I knew he would be before the end of the season rolled around ... going to need a great game from Largent and the rest of the LE cast of characters in order to compete with the size advantage that Canal/Mullens brings to the court ... I believe their last meeting at CW was a 20 point win for Mullens & Co. ... will be interested to see what Coach Stiverson has planned for CW/Mullens ...

... should be a good one b618 ...

...thanks theSportsGuy for getting the thread back to the top ... thought we were headed for page 2 for awhile LOL ...

Logan Elm moved the ball well against Canal. They just weren't hitting shots that night and that is a bad thing when you play teams like Canal, Chilli, Zville, etc. LE has to be a near flawless game to win in all honesty.

Vike Fan & Captain Jack: it is ok to pay a compliment to a player such as Guthrie who frankly deserves all the credit he is given and you too have praised him... it is not often you get a chance to watch such an unselfish player acheive this kind of goal without it going to his head and I can personally assure you that it has not!

Hawkeye: I thank you for all the kind words and have always enjoyed readying your post! Thank you...

Floyd: Thank you too Hawkeye is right he does appreciate all the kind words.

AKwhitewater...believe me when I tell you that our family counts ourselves as one of the biggest Dut Guthrie fans....it just sometimes wears on nerves when some folks speak as though the official voice of the Viking nation.

Every sectional you have mentioned the top 4 seeds...with some 5-8 seeds. At the Wellston D4 sectional you have the top 5 seeds listed.

Except you fail to mention the #2 seed of the Valley sectional......but do mention #3, #4 and even #7
