D3 Regional Semi. Wheelersburg vs. Fairland 3/11

Post by 4thgoal »

This game will be at Logan on 3/11 at 8:00. Fairland won the regular season matchup by 12, but Burg is playing very well right now and had a very solid game vs. McClain on Saturday. The winner will take on the Ironton vs. Fort Frye winner on 3/14.

Fairland has much more tournament experience. They have an outstanding press. They beat Wheelersburg handily just a month ago.
Burg by 5. ;-) Go Lady Pirates!

Fairland won by 12 in the first matchup I see. Read the article in the Ironton Tribune. Sounds like Fairland really found themselves in this game according to their coach.

I just think Fairland having a bunch of seniors and tournament experience will prove too much for Wheelersburg. Wheelersburg is coming off their best game of the season, but will see a completely different Fairland team than what McClain brought to the floor.

Anyone seen Fairland the last few tourney games? Sloppy? Just good defensively? I'm going off box scores.

I'll take Fairland by 7 in a well played game.

Lastly, why did the coaches not agree to move this game to a closer location?

I am not sure that is even an option once you make it to the regionals, but I would love to have seen this game at a closer location especially since it is a school night. This game at SSU, Jackson, Northwest or somewhere like that would be a packed house for sure.

The logical site for this game would have been Ironton. I have no idea why sites are predetermined in basketball but not in football. I have no problem with Logan for the other game

I think they are predetermined in all sports, except football. I like the idea of 'floating sites' or just putting on the bracket TBD until the teams participating are determined. Honestly, it is much easier for a school to get ready to host a basketball game than a football game, except for Jackson who would have to find volunteers to collect parking money...

Burg just had a horrible 1st half and was down 13 and turned that around and outscored Fairland 22-14 in the second half. Fairland is a solid, experienced team (starts 5 seniors I believe) and it is tough to play them from behind. I thought once Burg had the lead cut to 1 that they were going to pull it out, but they couldn't take the lead. Good luck to Fairland against Fort Frye.

fbnut,
You kind of had a good reason to think Wheelersburg would win when Tornadocager picked Fairland!

He also thought Ironton would win and South Webster would win the State. Unfortunately for Wheelersburg that was the one game he got right!

Add nelsonville-Ironton 1-2 possession game, McClain big over burg.
