The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers Dropped the State Semifinal game to the Columbus Africentric Lady Nubians 63-34. The Lady Tigers were uo 18-17 after 1--Behind 27-20 after 2 periods-And down 39-24 after 3, And the Final was 63-34 Columbus Africentric. Africentric will move on to play Marion Pleasant Saturday at 10:45 AM Ironton just could not get the lid off the basket today, As they dropped to 27-1 and done for the season. But man what an Amazing Exciting season it was. As several Lady Fighting Tigers played their last game in Stripes. Sounded like we had a huge advantage crowd size wise. But the Tigers got into foul trouble early and the Lady Nubians were just too much down the stretch.Marion Pleasant beat Mt. Gilead earlier. Mt. Gilead beat a team this year 111-1. And if memory serves me correctly the Lady Nubians have won 4 State Titles since 2010. So that should be a barnburner. In closing good luck in the State Game to the Lady Nubians moving forward. And just an Amazing season comes to close for the Lady Fighting Tigers who finished at 27-1.Absolute Amazing year Ladies.

Marion Pleasant beat Gilmour Academy. Not being a butt hole, just two different schools: Mt. Gilead & Gilmour Academy.

I realized that when I was watching the Columbus news last night at 11. when dom tiberi said the other name. I just wrote my post from remembering what the announcers said. great year by the lady tigers.they fought till the end , and with just seconds to go you could still hear the ironton crowd roaring ''go tigers go''

Ironton's 8th are very good. The 7th though was not undefeated they went out the first game in tournament. I doubt they had a winning record and were seeded 5th in the tournament. But a few 8th graders will see varsity action next year.

I was listening on webcast when they announced that, so I'm not surprised if I made a type OH! I'm old school,so I'm used to having the two grades combined, I think. Lol. I'm sure you're correct & I'll go with that.
I'm in Florida & rely on the ever so resourceful, Ironton Tribune, & then the awesome webcasters!!!!
Great job lady fighting tigers!

COLUMBUS AFRICENTRIC is a beast, who seems to gather players as well if not better than most private schools.

Good season Ironton.

Good season Ironton.
It's a tax payer funded private school. I laugh every time I read the name. How in the world that is even legal is beyond me. It's a reincarnation of the old Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education. No shame in losing to an All Star team. Great season Tigers!

For those interested...
I have retraced all the steps I took to refind out the info I found on africentrics girls roster info & I just cannot replicate it @ this time. I know I found a seated team photo of them for 2015-2016. It included a small write up about the outlook on the upcoming season & every players hometown.
ALL girls were from Ohio. I remember 3 from Middletown & only TWO from C-bus.
I will continue to look, but I've spent Atleast two hours searching & I just can't find it. I sure wished I saved it as a fave, but only a few days out from the Ironton matchup, I found no need to. DARNIT!

Isn't #23 for Ironton a transfer? Wasn't she from Greenup County.

Isn't basketball, but Ironton has been known to have one or two tranfers over the years on the gridiron.

I have also searched for anything showing where the A.C. players came from.

I did think a large part of them was from the Columbus area, but not many have been in the A.C. system all that long.

The bottom line is they are an all star type team, but they are playing by the rules allowed by the O.H.S.A.A.

I do think think the O.H.S.A.A. needs to rework the rules on all transfers.

I believe Africentric Nubians pulls from 21 different schools in the Columbus area as well as recruiting from the outside Columbus. It is time to separate public schools from private and secondary schools (Africentric) Make it fair. Look at the final four in girls and boys basketball in every division. VERY FEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS in final four. The percentage of private school state champions verses public is embarrassing. Time to make the playing field fair. The OHSAA is failing Ohio student athletes. It is time to separate.
