The real question is who broke down on defense to give up the basket

I'd rather have my coach beat a team 161-2 than jump around and run all over the court celebrating by himself.

The "2" doesn't bother me but the excess 75-80 points do a little bit.

Guessing 85-2 and 161-2 feel pretty much the same, though the latter shows the winning coach is a pompous piece of work.

Arroyo Valley wanted a running clock in the second half but the refs declined. Bloomington already lost a few games by 100 points

One thing that caught my eye in this article is that the winning team had a girl who was a bench player and was 8/9 from the 3-pt line. Once you were up by a large margin, wouldn't a coach at least tell his girls not to shoot 3's??

I'm just sitting here shaking my head. There are literally no words to describe the actions of the Arroyo coach.

He pressed the "entire" first half and lead 104-1 at half. They come out in the second half and pull off the full court press but employ a half court trap. Really, that's what the article said. Hard to make up something like that.

It's unbelievable that a coach would be so far removed from the concept of good sportsmanship. How could you possibly get any satisfaction or feel good about a score like that? There is absolutely no justification for what he did. He should be fired!

Why not go to the losing teams coach and say at the half " you play 2-3 zone" and I promise we will pass it around the perimeter for 20-30 sec on each possession and not take a three ? I hope that guy that ran it up gets his payback.

no way you score 161 points if you are not trying to score as quickly as possible .

What's the difference if you beat a team by 100+ or by 40 like some teams around here does?

The end result is the same, but how you get there is the difference. When you are still playing a trapping defense and shooting 3's after you are up over a 100 pts.....thats extreme. It's hard to know where the tipping point is and it isn't always the same, but if you are up 20 on a team....there could be a chance they would come back. Usually, once you get a lead of 30 it is over and sometimes even once the coaches have emptied the bench, that 30 point lead can swell to 40 just because the winning team has better bench players and that is expected too, since they practice against better players every day. No way you can compare winning by 40 to winning by 159...

I'm guessing the team that only scored 2 knew this was coming. I doubt it was a surprise. I'm tired of everybody making a big deal out of it. It happens every year somewhere

“I didn’t expect them (Bloomington) to be that bad, I’m not trying to embarrass anybody." said Anderson the coach of Arroyo.

He should've had a clue at the end of the 1st quarter when they were up somewhere around 50-0 and Bloomington couldn't get the ball to half court. Instead he continued to press the entire second quarter. And then trapped the entire third quarter!

Raises a lot of questions. Why would a coach continues pressing when up so much. Could it be a mucho mentality?…..We have to or we are soft. We must grind the other teams into the dirt mentality.

Perhaps defiant? Everyone knows it's poor sportsmanship but….. nobody is going to tell me what to do.

Perhaps a lack of empathy or compassion? When your are up by over 100 points and other team can't get the ball to half court even the fans of the winning team are feeling bad for them. He just doesn't get it perhaps.

Perhaps an ego problem? Somehow he believes this reflects positively on him and his team.

Really makes a person wonder and ask why? It didn't have to happen and nothing good comes from it. Clearly cross the line and then some with 99% of people.

I have been on Bloomington side of that score. They were totally outmatched but their is so much Arroyo Valley coach could have done to keep score down. Pressing after early part of game was uncalled for. I have much more respect for Bloomington

This story was just on "Today" this morning. The coach has been suspended for two games. I hope this sends a message that running up the score and more importantly continuing to press and trap when up big is not acceptable. Again, nearly all coaches understand good sportsmanship is one of the most important lessons the players will learn. I few coaches need to be reminded.

This coach is getting off easy.
