Portsmouth 65, Chesapeake 40. Don't have any details, but another good road win for the Trojans.

Today: Tough loss for the Trojans......lost to Waynesdale 44-43 on a late FT. Classic in the Country Tournament. Thanks to TriStateYouthSports for posting the score.

Portsmouth is in a solid 3rd place in the OVC at 7-2, three games ahead of Chesapeake. Fairland remains undefeated with Rock Hill 2nd at 9-1.

She stayed on the court and it was a running clock very early in the third quarter. If they played 10 times fairland would beat them 10 times and it’s not even close.

Very happy with the Trojans season to date. A solid 3rd place in the OVC with no seniors on the roster, starting 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores, and an undefeated JH squad coming up next season. Portsmouth will be even better next season and should be even better the following season. When the talent from the varsity and JH mixes, the Trojans will make a serious run at the Final 4. A big Trojan salute to all the coaches and players for making Portsmouth girls basketball relevant again.

Your faith in the team is admirable but even though Portsmouth will be better next season , so will Fairland.

6.1 sec left PHS was 1pt down to RH. PHS ball EOB under their basket.

PHS coach gets a T. smh.

RH sinks both FTs and the ball. RH wins.

Last night was amazing……..feel bad for the girls. Hard fought game taken away. Listen I agree the officiating wasn’t great but it wasn’t great both ways. RH had more fouls than we did…..at least in the second half. Siena lived at the line in the 4th. I do think Mosley got fouled with 6 sec to go. But…….how does the Head Coach get a technical in that spot?? It was our ball under the basket down 1. You couldn’t wait 6 more sec before telling the ref what you thought?? When are we going to learn?? Isn’t this the second run in with the refs by a Hughes family member this year?? What are we teaching our children? SMH. Proud of the girls and hope they keep battling through. PS I think we as fans should look in the mirror. Between Coach Hughes and us fans we road the refs the entire game……she had the final laugh. Ever think maybe we are getting a reputation? Just a thought. Go Trojans!!!!!

What a wild finish.
Allen makes 2 FTs to put Portsmouth up 47-46.

RH blows right passed the Trojans 2-2-1 press to re-take the lead.
Portsmouth quickly inbounds the ball after the score & RH coach calls timeout after the ball is inbounded but it’s granted anyway… this probably the start of coach hughes getting upset.

Portsmouth breaks the RH pressure but turns it over near their own FT line but steal it right back. Probably get fouled on the shot attempt but no call. Portsmouth ball under their hoop with 6 seconds left. Can’t hear what Hughes said but she seemed surprised it warranted a T in that spot.

RH makes both technical ft’s. Portsmouth fouls on the catch & RH misses the front end of the 1&1. Allen gets a decent look at the buzzer from the volleyball line to tie it but misses. Pretty crazy final 2 minutes.

Would love to know what Hughes said in that spot.

Tough loss for the Trojans, and no question the T pretty much killed the Trojans chances of pulling out the win. As TrojanDon said, we had possession of the ball down only 1 with 6 seconds to go and out of bounds under our basket. Ideal situation for PHS to get off a good shot or get fouled, and we were in the double bonus. To add to the possible outcome, Sienna Allen was absolute money at the FT line.

Very proud of the Trojans, they've had a great year thus far, with no seniors on the roster. No question the future looks super bright with an undefeated JH squad which won 43-8. Next year it's looking really good for Portsmouth to take that next step up and be a serious contender for the OVC crown and a strong tournament run. Combine the incoming freshmen with the varsity in 2023-24, and very good things are going to happen. The bench will be much deeper next season, and those players subbing will be impact players, not just players to fill a roster.

It was the most spirited game at Trojan Arena this season, and that includes the boys' games. Big crowd that was very loud, especially in the 4th quarter. Congratulations to Rock Hill for winning a hard fought game on the road. RH is a good basketball team that could make a good run in the postseason. The OVC is strong in girls basketball, with Fairland, Rock Hill, and Portsmouth making up the top 3.

GO TROJANS!!

The Portsmouth Junior High Trojans are looking for their 2nd consecutive undefeated season as they defeated Rock Hill in the OVC tournament semifinals. The PJHS girls will play the winner of Gallia Academy and Fairland in the championship, which will be held at Rock Hill HS on Wednesday.

Coach Mike Hughes has worked wonders with this team, which has only 6 players.

Portsmouth girls basketball is good now, and the program is on a huge upswing. The best is yet to come.

Terrible look for the Jr. High lady Trojans last night. They may have won the conference, but they showed their true colors. That was disgusting and that girl needs suspended multiple games to start next year. That was unbelievable.
