New Boston Super Scrimmage

Post by Ballgame »

On August 9th, New Boston will be hosting a Super Scrimmage. We are looking to have ten teams show up to the scrimmage where each will play two games. We have seven teams committed and are looking for three more. If anyone is interested please get in touch with Coach Estep at j_estep1@yahoo.com. It was a great event last year and looking forward to have a even better event this year. There will be a cost each team to play to help pay the officials.

Yes this is similar to a shootout, but each team will play two 50 minute games. They will play a game and then sit one and play again. The teams that we have committed are :
1.Glenwood New Boston
2.Wheelersburg
3.South Webster
4.Portsmouth Clay
5.Unioto
6.Zane Trace
7.Gallia Academy
8.Ironton St. Joe
9.North Adams
10.Ohio Valley Christian
The first game will start at 9am. The schedule is still being worked on right now because we are waiting on some of the teams schedules to make the match-ups. Once we receive all the information and fix the match-ups we will post them along with the times.

Hopefully Unioto can begin to gel at this event. They have had an awful preseason so far, but will be playing with Darian Lopez for the 1st time as he returns from a summer playing abroad. Two tough teams to match up with and it should be a good test for them as well.

I plan on making the trip down for at least most of the morning and some of the afternoon. Will there be an admission for fans? Also, what is the best way to get to the stadium from Chillicothe? I haven't been there since 2002 and that was on a bus, so I definetly wasn't paying attention to directions. Thanks!

There will be no admission charge for the super scrimmage. The best way to get to the stadium will be 23 to 52 east. Go through portsmouth and new boston. Once you past golden corral in New Boston go to the second light and turn left onto Lakeview. Then go thru the first light until you get to the stop sign and turn right. The stadium is right there.

Here are the scores from the games I watched:
Unioto 2 - Burg 2. Burg had a 2-0 lead and put their second string in and with :01 second left after their 2nd string keeper made an initial save it was tapped home from close range to make it a 2-2 tie.

Burg 4 - Gallia Academy 2. 1st goal for gallia took a deflection off a burg defender and their keeper was left in "no man's land" and the second was pretty good goal. Both of their goals however occured with burg's second string in.

South Webster 1- Unioto 1. South Webster got the game started quick scoring their goal within the first 30 seconds of the game. It was a very back-and-forth game. With a little over 12 minutes left in the game Unioto tie the match up off a cross which lead to a header.

Good to hear that Unioto got 2 draws, especially with the expirementing that was going to happen today. I was very happy to see Unioto get matched up with 2 Southern Ohio physical teams like Burg and Webster normally are. Even if they were come from behind or against lower tier players, it should still help the confidence of the younger players.
