wheelersburg at waverly

Post by BIG POPPA »

Great finish! the first half was 2-0 waverly and ended at 4-4 tie. Both teams played hard wheelersburg came back from I believe 3-0 with 22 minutes left to take the lead at 4-3 at one point and waverly eventually tied it up. Great game by two good teams looking forward to seeing these two playing again!

Waverly's defense played great. Gave up 3 of the 4 goals off of fouls(?). Coach Boll is a great coach. He somehow reloads every year.

The free kicks from burg were tremendous in the last twenty minutes. they really showed how well they can play.
I do beleive that the 2 of the goals from waverly were mistakes from the starting burg keeper. i only saw one good goal from waverly. burg on the other hand scored from set pieces and excuted well.

I have nothing but great hopes for our new coaches, Chris Williamson, Joey Hobbs, Lucy Schmitt and our 2010 Waverly Tiger Soccer Team. Good Luck Tigers and keep up the good work. I thought it was a very good game, great sportmanship and would have loved to walk away with a win, but will accept a tie. GO TIGERS

How does scoring on free kicks show how well you can play?? Just shows how the officials helped Wheelersburg.

Flopping is part of the game. I wish our team would do it more. If you watched the world cup you saw how some of the players went down like they were hit with a sniper shot to the head when they weren't even touched. That said, I didn't see the game so I can't say if the burg players flopped or not.

I completely disagree Rocky. Flopping IS NOT a part of the game. It is a form of cheating. Trying to get away with a move that is illegal. Wheelersburg did not flop in this game. My statement is broad and covers all levels of the sport. Flopping does not teach good sportsmanship and is a poor way to try to make up for a lack of talent on the field.

Most of the time a good forward is not flopping. Most coaches teach their defenders to take a good forward down rather than let him by. Hopefully this is done outside the box but in the box is ok as a last resort. Soccer is a contact sport.

I will agree it is not a good part of the game, but it definately is part of the game. It's like holding in football, it is illegal but done all the time. How can you tell the kids not to do it when they watch the top players in the world flop all the time, in slow motion instant replay where you can see with out a doubt they are flopping. So as for your lack of talent comment, if the best in the world are doing it, I don't think it is being done by just the weaker players.
It is up to the refs to penalize the kids who are flopping.

I have never seen a player in high school carded for flopping. I believe it should be like a hard foul, if you call it early then it has to stop. I don't blame the players for doing it because none of the officials will call it. During the course of the game a player goes down multiple times in the box something needs to be called other than fouls on the defense.

I saw it one time about 4 years ago and it came after a warning. I can't remember who it was or even where it was, but like you said, it was done early and put an end to it.

Everyone knows that Wheelersburg cheats in every sport they participate in and have all the officials on their payroll. That's the only reason the Pirates have won all those SOCII championships in every sport they compete in.

Thanks. I got this from the High School web site so I guess they need to update as well.

Actually, they won the football title in 76, graduating class of 77. The class of 77 only lost one football game the entire time they were in high school and that was to Portsmouth in the 75 season, class of 76.

They also won basketball (77) and golf (76, graduating class of 77).

Plus you have to remember there weren't as many boys or girls sports back then. No soccer, softball, swimming, or tennis. I'm not even sure if there was girls basketball then.
