This Saturday is a college game that has a lot of local interest. SSU women will host Georgetown College at 3:00. Several local players will be playing in this match.

Good luck to all local athletes competing. Great to see soccer is growing in our area!

Bears Defeat Georgetown 2-0 in Honor of Beth Webster

Shawnee Bears put up a strong defensive line against Georgetown. Efforts from Ramiah Wallace, Daan Louwerse, Jule Kalmer, and Paige Alford kept shots for Georgetown to a minimum, while goalkeeper Leonie Heck put up her second clean sheet to keep Georgetown scoreless.

The first half presented many opportunities for the Bears to take the lead. Two shots by Eilidh McHattie within the first ten minutes were saved by Georgetown's goalkeeper Kacy Zimmerman. Within the 10th minute Alba Closa Tarres had a one on one opportunity that was shot directly to Georgetown's goalkeeper. Georgetown's midfield answered back with a shot on goal that was saved by Leonie Heck. In the 23rd minute Haynna Addy had a one on one opportunity that was also shot directly at Georgetown's goalkeeper. In the 36th minute Georgetown saw its best opportunity of the evening from Libby Miller, who hit the top cross bar. The Tigers and Bears finished the first half scoreless.

Within the first 7 minutes of the second half, Haynna Addy drove to the goal line and cut back, serving a ball across the box to find and assist Eilidh McHattie with the first goal of the game for the Bears. The Bears continue to put pressure on the Tigers with a shot from Madison Humble and a free kick from Paige Alford that was saved and tipped over the crossbar. In the 71st minute, Alba Closa Tarres made a sprinting effort to keep the ball in on Georgetown's goal line to play it into the box on the 6 yard line to find and assist Breanna Murphy.

The Bears improve to 5-6 on the season (1-3 in the conference).

The Bears will face The University of Tennessee Southern in their next match at home on October 8th. Kickoff is scheudled for 5:00pm.
