At the February OHSAA Board of Directors Meeting, the Board of Directors approved the recommendation to reinstate the 10-day rule for team sport coaches (General Sport Regulation 7.5.1), beginning June 1, 2022. In summary, prior to the summer of 2020, a team’s coaching staff was limited to a maximum of 10 days to work with more of 50% of their student athletes, from June 1 – July 31. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this 10-day limitation was suspended in both 2020 and 2021. The Board of Directors have lifted the 2020 and 2021 suspension and return to the 10-day coaching limitation from June 1 – July 31.

I doubt it'll bring much discussion on here because the board is largely dead, but it is an interesting rule.

Why does it exist to begin with? How do those in OHSAA decision-making positions come up with arbitrary rules?

Additionally, it is not bad because kids should be kids and enjoy time. Families need time away. Coaches can ruin a lot of things. But, Ohio is potentially one of the only states that has something so arbitrary it makes no sense. I have never heard anyone talk so much about something so asinine in any other state.

Two years of COVID showed that the rule is unnecessary. If it’s needed why did it go away for two years? Why 10 days? So 7 or 12.
