With all the baseball in the news this week (some news optimistic and some not so much), this podcast show talks the "state" of high school spring sports, specifically baseball, on the heels of the entire spring sport season being cancelled. How healthy is baseball right now? What changes need to be made? How will the current crisis and the cancellation of the season affect the future of the game? We talk all of this and more.

The immediate threat to high school and college baseball in the Covid age is financial. Will schools expend the dollars for non revenue sports if tax revenues and personal incomes continue to collapse.

The secondary threat is Major League Baseball itself. Will big league dreams, thus interest in baseball vanish as MLB eliminates opportunities to pursue a pro career. Minor leagues and the amateur draft is being dowside. Latin American baseball academies may be the main route to the majors instead of American sandlots.

I hear baseball is now possible with several restrictions.
No huddle, no contact, no gum chewing or seed spitting.
No high fives or hugs. Better than nothing, maybe.

Do you feel the minors downsizing could help the NCAA bring more elite prospects? It seems like if baseball could ever get "tomorrow's stars" on TV today that kids would relate to them more. This could possibly draw more money/ratings (all year instead of just College WS). Just seems like to me that NCAA football/basketball is more popular draw. The road to MLB is so long, I feel like many elite players are pushed to other sports because the path is shorter to the top (and in many cases easier).

Meigs county will be hosting an independent baseball league for Meigs and Mason county WV. Age groups up to 18 years old. Hopefully Eastern southern and Meigs get teams together to play. Along with wahama and point pleasant
