ATHENS JV (7) @ MARIETTA JV (3) ...

Post by questionmark »

The Red Hot Athens JV traveled to Marietta Wednesday night trying to push their winning streak to 5 games. Athens got a extremly great complete game effort from Colton Noftz who did record the win.

ATHENS JV --- 105 000 1 - 7 7 2
MARIETTA JV--002 000 1 - 3 7 3

WP - NOFTZ
LP - FLOWER

Athens sent Colton Noftz to the hill as he recorded the complete game victory. Noftz allowed 7 hits, 2 walks while striking out 3 and limiting the JV Tigers to only 3 runs. Marietta sent Flower as he only lasted 2 innings. Flower was replaced by Hupp who went 5 innings for the JV Tigers getting them out of 3 inning that Athens used to gain their big lead. Flower allowed 3 hits, walked 3, struck out 2 and allowed 6 runs. Hupp allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, struck out 6 and allowed 1 run.

1st Inning-
Andrew Zoulek lead the game off with a bunt single down third. He then move all the way to third on a Sacrifice bunt by Trey Harris. Curtis Goldsberry would then hit Zoulek in sending a Sacrifice Fly to the outfield. Noftz would also single in the inning.
In the bottom half, Noftz would get Whittle to flyout. Flower would then reach via an Athens error. Noftz would then shrug his sholders and strikeout the next 2 batters Hess & Kriechbaum. (Athens lead 1-0)

2nd Inning-
Flower would have his best inning. Getting both Kevin Deal and Shad McCollum to ground out before Striking out Joey Germano.
Noftz would then answer with an inning of his own getting Taylor to flyout before forcing both Bronski & Grzonka to ground out to short. (Athens lead 1-0)

3rd Inning-
Jackson Lavelle would lead off with a walk. Andrew Zoulek then would hit a ball to short that would be thrown away at 1st letting Lavelle move to 3rd and Zoulek to 2nd. Harris then would walk to load the bases. Goldsberry then would hit a ball over to deep 2nd, but Marietta would try to get the runner at home. Lavelle would score easy and the bases remained loaded. Noftz then would walked to force in another run. That'd be it for Flower. Enter Hupp. Hupp would get Gerren to strike out looking for the 1st out. Deal would then send a ball to 3rd, allowing Harris to score. McCollum then would single to score another run. Noftz would then get the JV Tiger catcher to throw down to 3rd and actually hit him with the ball. He would break for home as the ball rolled away and slid safely in at home. Hupp would strikeout Germano to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Noftz would get Hirschfield to ground back to him. Hupp would then single. Whittle would reach via a walk. Flower would fly out to Zoulek in center. Hess would then send a shot down the line scoring 2 for the JV Tigers. Noftz would get Kreichbaum to flyout to end the inning. (Athens lead 6-2)

4th-5th-6th
Both team would go scorless through the 3 innings.

7th Inning-
Colton Noftz would lead off with a single. Gerren would advance Noftz on a groundout to 2nd. Kevin Deal would then hit a ball to 3rd who looked Noftz back, but then threw the ball away allowing Noftz to score and Deal to move to 2nd. McCollum would flyout to 1st for out number 2. Stephen Kelder would then step in making a pinch-hitter appearence. Hupp however would get Kelder on a full-count to strikeout.
Grzonka would lead the inning off for the JV Tigers with a single to left. Lucas would then pinch-hit hitting a ball to McCollum at 2nd who would flip to Deal at 2nd Base recording the 1st out. Deal also threw to first and looked to have Lucas nailed. However the umpire felt differently and called the runner safe. Hupp would then single to right. Noftz then would walked Whittle to load the bases. Flower would single to score Lucas. Noftz would then get down 3-1 with the JV Tigers power slugger at the plate. (*Note in an earlier game, Hess homered off Noftz). This time, Noftz would battle back to strike him out. Noftz then would get Kreichbaum to ground out to McCollum to end the game. (Athens WIN 7-3)
