doubleplay643 wrote: Tue Apr 17, 2018 12:55 pm Since we can't play due to all the weather, may as well discuss and speculate the local teams for Sectionals and Districts.

On the good news front, if I read the OHSAA brackets correctly OU will be hosting the regionals this year instead of that minefield in Zanesville, which is about 5 years overdue, but apparently they finally concurred with every fan that ever went there and watched a game.

I think Unioto has to be the favorite at this point, any other predictions?
I sent an e-mail to the OHSAA last year stating that it was unsafe to keep playing in Zanesville, unless you liked buying crack cocaine on your way to the park and thought it was safe to do so.
I was very pleased to hear that the OHSAA was finally going to pull the trigger and move the Regional from Zanesville's Gant Stadium to OU's Bob Wren Stadium. Jerry Snodgrass saw me walking through a lobby in Columbus back in January and invited me to come over and sit with him, where he was again very apologetic for the circus we had to endure at the Regional Final game last spring, when our game was halted in the middle of the first inning because the site director thought the Home/Away teams were reversed. After 20 minutes of argument and a phone call from the field to Jerry at OHSAA, we finally resumed and there was never an issue to begin with. Besides all the obvious things that people have mentioned year after year, such as getting hit with line drives flying through the holes in the batting cage and the makeshift L-screens (I tied one back together with my belt 2 years ago), I believe the fiasco of last year's game may have finally been the straw that broke the camel's back. One thing is for certain, based on the way Wayne runs the District events at Bob Wren, the Regional experience there will be top quality and memorable (in positive ways, unlike the most recent memory I carry with me from Gant 😉).
Thank you for sharing that with him, because it sounded like a total nightmare that should never have happened in the first place.

Looks like Marietta is probably the best team. They are killing Athens

Not to be a homer sort of guy (but I will anyway lol) Jackson beat Alexander, VC and split a DH with Unioto, also see them ending up around the .500 mark.

We are scheduled to play Gallia and Athens prior to seeding but I doubt we get those in with all the make-ups. We may be able to get in Logan or Warren since they are not in a league and may be able play us if open dates match up. If that would happen we may be able to judge where Warren or Jackson would fit.

After the SVC finishes play and assuming Unioto and ZT split (I think I saw where they just played 1 so far), I would have it something like this, still a lot to learn this week.

1/2 Union and/or ZT
3 Marietta
4/5 Athens and/or Waverly
6/7 Jackson and/or Gallia
8/9 Alexander and/or Warren
10 VC

Who is your best win and worst loss? Jackson best win unioto and worse loss to Greenfield.

Unioto and Zane Trace don't play again until next Monday.

I think Waverly is 9-8.

Well if they do not play until after the Sunday seeding then I imagine ZT gets the nod as the #1 seed unless they slip up to someone this week. Who do they play before voting is done?

That would seem to leave 1-4 as: ZT; Unioto; Marietta; Athens.

country roads wrote: Tue Apr 24, 2018 8:35 am I've spent all my life in West Virginia. I move over the river and suddenly it seems like over here small schools are more important than the bigger school. DIV baseball seems to be much more talked about and competitive, with better talent than the bigger DII and DI schools... in WV PHS would kick wahamas ass, but in Ohio, Eastern would beat Meigs by 15 runs.
Just because DIV gets talked about a lot on preps doesn't make it more talented or competitive. LOL

Meigs is a bad example. There is a difference, if not big difference, between the DIV sectional that Eastern is in compared to the D2 south sectional being discussed on this thread.

Eastern is pretty darn good and a lot of times (in most sports besides football) a top team in DIV can in fact be competitive in D2.

BUT ,,, once you get into the 3rd seed through 9 or 10 seeds - its not even close. The 4,5 or even 6 seeds in D2 would probably mercy a lot of the DIV teams.

McClain
Gallia
Vinton County
Sheridan
New Lexington
Warren
Waverly
Athens
Hillsboro
Logan Elm

Jackson
Marietta
Zane Trace (replace Meigs)
Fairfield Union
Washington CH
Miami Trace
Circleville
Unioto
Chillicothe
Chillicothe is D1 this year

The Jackson/Gallia game will be played tonight 4/25 at the VA, so we ought to get some clarification on how these two teams may get seeded this coming weekend.
