ATHENS JV (13) @ MARIETTA JV (11)...

Post by questionmark »

The Athens JV invaded Marietta tonight and escaped with a hard fought victory...

ATHENS JV - 033 070 0 - 13 7 5
MARIETTA JV- 203 411 0- 11 15 2

WP- Goldsberry (1-0)
LP - Flower
SV - Maffin (1)
HR - Hess (1)

Marietta, OH-
The Athens JV DOGS traveled for the first time this season and their first away game was not at an easy place to play. Marietta is always a hard place to play, and its always gonna be a battle when these two teams meet. The Athens JV started Colton Noftz on the hill as he went 3 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2 as he got a no-decision. Noftz was a little shaken up when he allowed a solo homerun in the bottom of the 3rd from the bat of Marietta's Hess. Noftz would be replaced by Curtis Goldsberry who went 1 2/3 innings for the JV DOGS earning the Victory. Goldsberry allowed 3 hits, walked 6 and struck out 2. Goldsberry was replaced by Dean Maffin who earned his first save of the season by finishing the last two innings for the JV DOGS. Maffin allowed 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4. Marietta started Hirchfield on the mound. He was replaced by Flower who was charged with the loss as Weppler finished on the hill for the JV Tigers.

The JV Tigers started off the scorefest by 2 in the bottom of the first. Athens would come right back and answer with 3 in the top of the 2nd as they would also blank the JV Tigers to hold a (3-2) advantage. Athens then opened their lead adding 3 in the top of the 3rd. This time, The JV Tigers would strike back as they would get 3 runs of their own to draw the JV DOGS lead to just 1. Marietta feeding off their momentum would blank Athens in the fourth. Their momentum would carry them into the bottom of the inning as well as they added 4 runs to take their 2nd lead of the game, this time at (9-6). Athens feeling the game slipping away with their backs against the wall would answer, and answer loud. In the 5th, Athens would send 12 batters to the plate. 3 of those batters would collect hits (Goldsberry, Germano, Zoulek). 6 of those batters would collect a base-on-balls (Germano, Zoulek, Harris, Weaver, Gerren, Maffin). Athens scored 7 in the inning to take back the lead that they eventually would not give back. Athens now lead (13-9). The JV Tigers would add 1 in the 5th and 6th but they would not be enough. The final from Marietta was an Athens (13-11) victory. This moves the Athens JV to (2-0) overall and (2-0) in League play...
