Jackson rally nips Gallipolis, 7-6

Post by jottings »

Southeastern Ohio Athletic South Division leader Jackson rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the sixth inning on Memorial Field in Gallipolis Thursday evening to edge Gallia Academy, 7-6, in a makeup contest.

The Ironmen now lead second place GAHS and Portsmouth by two full games with six South Division games remaining. Jackson improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Gallipolis slipped to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in league action.

It was Jackson’s second win over Gallipolis in two days, having beaten the Blue Devils 11-1 at Jackson Wednesday evening.

Jackson grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, but GAHS forged ahead 2-1 after one frame.

Jackson tied it at 2-2 in the top of the second, but Gallipolis came up with two in its half of the third inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Neither team scored in the fourth rung.

Jackson tied it up 4-4 in the top of the fifth, but GAHS came back to take a 5-4 lead after five innings.

In the top of the sixth, Jackson plated three runs to take a 7-5 lead. Gallipolis came back with one in its half of the sixth to make the count read 7-6. Gallipolis had runners on second and third in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, but failed to score.

Jackson’s ace pitcher, Tyrus Coyan, came in and saved the game in the bottom half of the seventh inning. GAHS had a runner on second base with one out, but couldn’t get him in.

Jackson had several outstanding defensive plays and timely hits in the triumph.

Gallipolis has a league bye Friday. However the Blue Devils play a non-league game at Fairland Friday, and will host Chesapeake in a makeup non-league twin bill Saturday before returning home Monday evening for a SEOAL game with Portsmouth.

Score by innings:
Jackson…..110 023 0 -- 7
GAHS……202 011 0 -- 6

Congrats to the Ironmen.

I'll definitely take 7-3 overall and 5-1 in SEOAL play at this point in the season. Hope the Ironmen can keep it up!

Jottings,

Do you have all the results from Jackson's non-league games?

Ironmen...Unless scores were posted on here, no. Just the league games.

Ok, thanks. I hadn't seen the scores on here so I was just curious who Jackson had lost to out of league.
