LOGAN JV (4) @ ATHENS JV (5) ...

Post by questionmark »

The Logan JV made the trip to Rannow Field in The Plains tonite and found themselves in a dog fight...with a classic baseball ending...

LOGAN JV - 100 101 1 - 4 5 2
ATHENS JV -100 020 2 - 5 9 3

WP-HARRIS
LP- BARRELL

The Athens JV sent Curtis Goldsberry to the hill and he threw a good game. Goldsberry went 6 2/3 innings picking up a no-decision. Trey Harris came in relief for the JV Dogs as he earn the WIN. The Logan JV sent Barrell to the mound as he also threw a good game. Barrell went 6 2/3 innings as well, but because the runners that scored in the 7th were put on base while he was pitching, he suffers the lose. Glick came in relief in the 7th. Goldsberry allowed 5 hits, struck out 6 and held Logan to 4 runs. He did suffer tonite with a lot of (3-2) counts that resulted in 12 walks. Harris allowed no hits, no walks, struck of zero in his relief stint. Barell allowed 8 hits, walked 4 and struck out 5. Glick allowed the game winning hit from Shad McCollum in the bottom of the 7th...

1st Inning-
The inning started with a walk to Rutter. Tucker then layed sacrificed bunt to move Rutter to second. Goldsberry would then K the next batter to get the second out. Doyle then drove a single to center to score Rutter. That'd be it for Logan.
In the bottom half, Andrew Zoulek would get the ball rolling as he drove a deep shot to left for a lead off double. Barell would then K the next batter. Zoulek moved to 3rd on the strikeout. Curtis Goldsberry then drove a shot to left center to score Zoulek and tie the game. Colton Noftz would then reach via a Hit-by-pitch, but Barrell would leave them stranded K-ing the next batter and getting McCollum to fly out to 1st. (Tie 1-1)

2nd Inning-
Goldsberry would start the inning K-ing the lead-off hitter. Then a Barrell single would get one runner on. Barrell would try to steal 2nd as Robbie Gerren would gun him out for out number 2. After an error allowed Spicer to reach, Goldsberry would get Buckler to ground out to McCollum to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Barrell would get Athens 1-2-3. (Tie 1-1)

3rd Inning-
Logan would get 2 on via walks (Rutter and Redmond) but a flyout to short and an inning ending K would leave them both stranded.
In the bottom half, Barrell again would shut down Athens 1-2-3. (Tie 1-1)

4th Inning-
Logan would strike again. Swaim would leadoff the inning with a walk. Goldsberry would then K Barrell. Spicer then would reach with a single. A flyout from Buckler would be out number 2. Rutter then would send a single through the infield to score Swaim. That'd be it for the Logan JV in the 4th.
In the bottom half, Barrell would get Athens yet again 1-2-3 for the 3rd straight inning. (Logan lead 2-1)

5th Inning-
Goldsberry would wrap two K's around a Doyle single. Then force Swaim to popout to Germano to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Athens would strike back. Kevin Deal and Devin Williams would both single. Deal would steal 2nd and 3rd before scoring on the Williams single. Williams would then score on a Trey Harris single. Athens would leave one stranded in the inning but did recap the lead. (Athens lead 3-2)

6th Inning-
Barrell would lead-off the inning walking. Spicer would then sacrifice bunt Barrell to 2nd. Buckler then would walk to get two runners on. Rutter then woould popout to the catcher for out number 2. Then, Catcher Robbie Gerren would pick off Buckler who was off 3rd big to end the inning. Barrell would score in the inning to tie up the game.
In the bottom half, Barrell would get the 1st 2 Athens batters out before walking Gerren. However he would get Keving Deal to flyout to end the inning. (Tie 3-3)

7th Inning-
Goldsberry would get Tucker to ground out to McCollum for out number 1. Redmond would then ground out to short for out number 2. Goldsberry would then find some trouble walking 4 straight batters (Doyle, Roberson, Rogers, Kreitz). Doyle was the go ahead run who scored on the Kreitz walk that forced him in. That was it for Goldsberry on the night. Athens would look to Trey Harris for relief. Harris would answer the call. Getting Spicer to flyout to Right Fielder Devin Williams to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Barrell would K Williams to start. Zoulek then would single to start the rally. Zoulek would steal 2nd to get into scoring positon and then take 3rd on a wild pitch. Zoulek then would steal home to tie the game at 4. Trey Harris would walk as he was the winning run. Barrell would then get Goldsberry on a (3-1) count to popout to 1st for out number two. Colton Notfz then would single to move Harris to 2nd. Joey Germano then would step in. Barrell would walk Germano ending his night and leaving the bases loaded with 2 outs. Glick would replace Barrell on the hill facing Athens 2nd Baseman Shad McCollum. Glick would get ahead (0-2) to McCollum needing only one more strike to send the game to extras. McCollum, had other ideas as he sent the Glick 0-2 pitch up the middle for the game winning single. (ATHENS WINS 5-4)
