ALEXANDER JV (8) @ ATHENS JV (6)...

Post by questionmark »

The Alexander JV Spartans paid a visit to Rannow Field in The Plains on Tuesday and found themselves right at home as they gained an early lead in the 1st and never looked back.

ALEXANDER JV - 400 300 1 - 8 9 0
ATHENS JV ----- 000 310 2 - 6 9 7

WP - DOUGHTY
LP - ZOULEK

The Alexander JV Spartans sent Doughty to the hill as he threw a complete game, earning the victory. Doughty allowed 9 hits, 7 walks/hbp and struck out 3 in his 7 innings of work holding the JV Dogs to only 6 runs. The Athens JV Bulldogs sent Andrew Zoulek to the hill as he also went the distance. Zoulek allowed 9 hits, 5 walks, and struck out 5 as he suffered the loss.

The Alexander JV got out to an early (4-0) lead in the 1st capitalizing on 2 Athens errors. Each team would go scoreless throughout the 2nd and 3rd setting up the 4th. In the 4th, The Alexander JV would come out scoring again tacking on 3 more in the 4th again gaining momentum on another Athens error. Athens would then show some life after being down (7-0). Getting the bases loaded for Sophomore Curtis Goldsberry was the spark they needed as he delievered a double to center scoring all three runners on base (Noftz, Gerren, Maffin). Alexander lead now (7-3).
Zoulek would leave Alexander scorless in the 5th. Athens JV would add another in the 5th, but would leave two runners on 2nd and 3rd. Zoulek would leave Alexander scoreless in the 6th. Doughty then would leave Athens scorless in the 6th. Zoulek managed to get the 1st 2 Alexander batters out. Then he would force McCarty to pop up to the middle infield. However on the play Athens 2nd baseman and Short-Stop would miscommunicate as they would both try to catch the ball resulting in it hitting the turf and adding another error for the error prone JV Dogs. That error would keep the inning going for the Alexander JV as they would get Mccarty around to score in the inning. In the 7th the Athens JV would put up a dog fight. After the 1st batter popped out to 1st, Noftz would get a walk. Gerren would then hit a slow roller just to the right of the pitchers mound moving Noftz to second. With two outs, McCollum then would battle for a walk to get 2 Athens runners on. Trey Harris would then step back in. Harris came out of the game in the 4th, but came back in huge in the 7th. Harris would double to left scoring both Noftz and McCollum cutting the lead to (8-6). Next to the plate would be strong hitting Freshman Dean Maffin. Everything Athens needed as Maffin was the tying run. With a 2-2 count, Maffin would jump on the ball sending it to deep left field. The crowd would let you know the out come as Alexander leftfielder made the play to secure the Win. Alexander WON (8-6)...
