WARREN JV (4) @ ATHENS JV (14) F/6...

Post by questionmark »

The Warren JV Warriors made the trip to Rannow Field for their SEOAL North battle with the Athens JV Bulldogs. After an early Athens lead, Warren battled to tie the game, but in the 6th Athens would take control and score 10 runs to force the 10-run Mercy rule...

WARREN JV - 000 050 x - 4 6 2
ATHENS JV - 021 10 (10)x- 14 11 3

WP- NOFTZ
LP- DOUGLAS (This may not be the correct name?)

Athens sent Colton Noftz to the hill as he earn the win throwing 6 strong innings for the JV Dogs. Noftz allowed 6 hits, walked 4 and struck out 1 as he held Warren to only 4 runs. Warren sent Powell to the hill, but early in the 2nd he had to leave the game after suffering an injury. Since the game was tied up later. Powell recieved a No Decision. Warren made 2 pitching substitutions but I did not get the names in my book. The Trio of Warren pitchers allowed 9 hits, walked 9 and struck out 2 as they allowed Athens to score 14 runs.

1st Inning-
Noftz dominated early getting the 1st 2 batters out. Then after an Athens error at short that kept the inning going Warren would rally. With the bases loaded with JV Warriors (Adams, Hendricks, Ty Giffin) Noftz would force Pettit to fly out to centerfielder Andrew Zoulek to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Athens would go down 1-2-3 with Zoulek hitting to the mound, Harris flying out to 3rd and Goldsberry drilling a shot to right center that Adams of Warren made a heckuva catch on. (Tie 0-0)

2nd Inning-
After a lead off walk to Frame, Athens catcher Robbie Gerren would throw out Frame trying to steal 2nd. Noftz then would get Powell to ground out to 2nd baseman Shad McCollum before forcing Ankram to fly out to himself.
In the bottom half, Noftz would lead off with a single to center. Noftz would then move to 3rd on a Joey Germano single. Germano would steal 2nd. McCollum would then deliever a single scoring Noftz. Germano moved to third on the hit, then scored on a passed ball. Gerren would walk to reach. Kevin Deal then would to short who threw to 2nd for a fielders choice. Devin Williams then would single to reload the bases full the Bulldogs. However the inning would end when Warren got Andrew Zoulek to strike out. (Athens 2-0)

3rd Inning-
After back to back outs. Noftz would allow Adams, Hendricks and Ty Giffin to reach with 2 hits and a walk (double and single and walk respectfully). However, Noftz would get Pettit to fly out again to Zoulek in center.
In the bottom half, Trey Harris would lead off with a walk. Goldsberry would then single to center moving Harris to 2nd. Noftz would sacrifice bunt moving both Harris and Goldsberry into scoring position. Germano then would sacrifice fly to deep left center to score Harris form 3rd. That'd be it for Athens in the 3rd. (Athens 3-0)

4th Inning-
Athens pitcher Colton Noftz would dominate the inning, getting all 3 batters he faced to ground out in the inning.
In the bottom half, Athens would make a mental mistake to start the inning. Kevin Deal would single to left. However, when the Warren coach realized Gerren should have been up to bat, Deal was called out for being an Illegal batter. Then, since Deal was after Gerren, Deal was up again. This time, Deal would reach via a Hit-by-pitch. Williams would then walk. Zoulek would send a ball to the short stop would fired over to 2nd for the fielders choice out leaving Athens runners on the corners. Zoulek took off for 2nd and Deal took off for Home as the Warren catcher fired the ball down to third. Deal would slide safely into home to score as Zoulek moved all the way from 1st to 3rd. That'd be it for Athens in the inning. (Athens 4-0)

5th Inning-
After a lead off fly out, Noftz would find some trouble. After a Tabler double to center, and Adams single Athens would make a fielding mistake. Athens right fielder came up aggressivly and looked ready to make the catch, however the ball fell out of his glove and allowed both Warren runners to score. Ty Giffin then would single scoring Hendricks and Pettit would reach via another Athens error. After a ground out to 2nd that scored Giffin. Noftz would get Kerns to ground back to the mound to end the inning.
In the bottom half, Athens would leave two runners on who both reached via walks (Goldsberry and McCollum). (Tie 4-4)

6th Inning-
Noftz of Athens would dominate again in the 6th shutting down the JV Warriors in order 1-2-3 via a ground out, strike out and flyout.
In the bottom half, Athens would explode. Deal would reach via getting hit by the pitch again for the 2nd time. A walk to Tanner Weaver would put 2 on. Andrew Zoulek then would single to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Athens would pull off a successful suicide squeeze with Kevin Deal sprinting for home with the pressure on Trey Harris who needed to put the ball in play. He did and Athens gained a run. With the bases again loaded, Athens again went back to the suicide squeeze. Again it was successful as Weaver sprinted toward home and the pressure was on Curtis Goldsberry. Goldsberry delievered. Noftz would single, to score and run as Germano would send a shot to right to score another. McCollum then would single to score another run. Robbie Gerren would then get hit with a pitch. However the umpire concluded he did not make an attempt to get out of the way. A couple pitches later, Gerren would get hit again, this time letting him reach and forcing in another run. Deal would then reach via an error on the play scoring yet another Athens run. Weaver would walk. Andrew Zoulek would then lay a successful sacrifice bunt to move Deal the winning run. Trey Harris would then step in. All Harris needed to do was get a ball to the outfield, he had other ideas. Harris would single to left scoring Deal to end the contest. (Athens WIN 14-4)
