SOC 2, I'd imagine will look a lot like last season. Most of the players were sophomores and juniors with a few seniors sprinkled in. Wheelersburg won it last year and will be again expected to contend. Minford and Valley, with the pitching they possess will be expecting to win the league, too.

Not exactly sure who lost what, but based on what I saw last year (and what I think is returning)
1. Minford, Valley, and Wheelersburg Pitching, pitching, pitching
4. Northwest, Waverly, South Webster
7. Eastern, Oak Hill, West

IMO, those are the 3 tiers of the league.

Absolutely blows my mind that coach Goodwin is still at West. Has been disastrous. I don't care what his resume says, it is not working out and still gets his contract renewed. 3 coaches that just left Minford could have turned this program around immediately and we passed on it. 3 very succesfull former players at West. That all won alot of games, played at the next level, and dominated the SOC during their time at Minford. Perfect oppurtunity and we sign the guy back that loses ball games that look like football scores.

Siderblood, you are correct. The Knittels and Howard are a great coaching staff and would be the injection West needs to build that program. It was unfortunate for Goodwin that he lost several players that are juniors, sophomores, and freshmen this year. I don't think he ever had a chance to field a team with them. Probably a lot of reasons they all left to different schools, but it happened and you have to coach and develop the kids you have.

Who left west? Don’t they still have some of the core guys from last years team? Fike, Tipton, and Sayre?

Those names are still there. I’m assuming he is referring to the group that Went to ND in junior high.

Yep, 2 that went to Waverly, 2 that went to Valley, and a few that went to ND. They never played high school at West but went there junior high.

You and me both! I heard he's in good with administration and so they won't get rid of him. I don't think the kids even enjoy playing for him. They play because they love baseball. However, he is so bad for that program...Actually bad for any program. When he was hired, he had been to 7 schools in 10 years. That should have been a red flag from the beginning! He's just a big "L!"
West definitely should have jumped on the coaches that left Minford! They would have done it right at West, bringing back a winning tradition. Heard there's bad blood somewhere with Rapp, so they keep overlooking them. If this is the case, GROW UP. Isn't this about doing what's best for the kids and the school? You know you're getting a winning tradition with hiring the coaches that left Minford.

Final score on Saturday at Chillicothe's VA Memorial Stadium in the opener for the 2023 high school baseball season was Wheelersburg 14, Logan 3 in 5 innings.

10th annual First National Bank Baseball Classic.

Wheelersburg 3 unearned runs on a Caden Conn bases-clearing triple in opening inning, then 9 more earned runs in 2nd inning including a Conn capping 2-run single.

Connor Estep adds 2 more earned runs in the 4th to make it 14 runs for Wheelersburg with 2-run double.

Jake Darling pitched 4 innings of 2 earned run ball with 7Ks and allowed no walks with 3 hits.

Owen Young pitched the 5th inning for Wheelersburg, and induced a bases-loaded pop out to end the game with the score 14-3. Run was unearned he allowed.

Wheelersburg with 11 hits and Logan with 4 hits as both teams 2 errors.

That's the wrap here in Chillicothe as we hit the noontime hour this Saturday and say so long from VA Memorial Stadium. Pirates 14, Logan 0 in 5 innings in the 2023 baseball season opener.

Minford has had a rough start to the year. Along with their left field wall being blown over during the wind storm before the first home game.
