FINAL Jackson 10 Athens 7

Post by Ironman92 »

Jackson traveled to Athens to pick up their 1st road win, 2nd consecutive win and their first offensive outburst.

Emileigh Cooper hit a line drive HR and made 4 great defensive plays while nearly every Jackson starter had a hit or scored a run.

Very nice outting for the Ironladies! They have played really hard the first couple weeks, but not alot of wins to show for their efforts. Very good pitching & solid defense, but tuff luck at the plate and timely hitting has struggled. Hitting the ball, just not having any eyes.
Coach Kunz has stressed, stay with our fundamentals & good things will eventually happen. Have to ride the ship!

Tonight, the team showed coming of age. With 3 fresh. & 1 soph. starting, more experienced players are being called upon for leadership. Saw signs of togetherness the past couple outings. Resting Jess Aplsey, Ironladies handed the ball to Freshman Kelly Hughes and once again stressed defensive execution. Hughes struckout 2 batters through 5 innings BUT walked 0 and scattered 6 hits before handing the ball to Apsley for the final 3 innings to attempt to close the door on the 10-7 lead. Apsley looked sharp, giving up just 1 infield single in 3 innings of work.

THE defense was in great support of both Hughes & Apsley, they took pride in their performance and played for each others success.

The offense rode that ship out & started to see good things happen.

The HARD WORK is starting to show benefits & has built a foundation in which the rest of the season will rest.

CONGRATS to a night of firsts: Kelly Hughes first varsity win & Emileigh Cooper for first HR to bust the game open!

Keep up the hardwork and pick up on Sat. where you left off tonight!

GO IRONLADIES
