SOC trivia

Post by kahn »

If New Boston defeats East tonight and earns a share of the SOC title it will be four straight SOC I titles for the Lady Tigers.

I've only been in this region fulltime for about five years so I was wondering when was the last time a school, SOC I or II, won four straight SOC titles?

Thanks if anyone knows.

Just to give the credit, the Lady Tigers have dominated the SOC I with ease. They have produced many players with excellent attitudes and many talented players as well. Great Job Lady Tigers!

The Tigers have had a great run. But to say they "dominated" the league when Eastern Pike killed them in game 2 by like 35 points?????? That might be a stretch.

I predict the Tigers will be tamed next season.....

It wasn't that long ago that New Boston didn't have a girls' team for a year or two.

Oak Hill probably has at least one stretch of four but I can not swear to it. During Jamie Lewis eras they won her freshman, Sophomore and her senior year but her junior year they did not win a league game (she had torn cruciate). When Alyssa Hammonds was there, they had good years but I think they may have lost to South Webster her junior year when she was hurt also?

Minford girls has had some very good years as has South Webster--look back to Robin Hagen Smith time...

Wheelersburg has had multiple runs of SOC's in boys--especially since they had two head coaches who won SOC championships every year they coached at Wheelersburg. In fact, those two along with a third had a string of 11 in a row. Most recently, Wheelersburg had a four year string during Andrew Burleson's four years 98-99, 99-00, 00-01, 01-02.

In girls basketball, the most SOC championships in a row that Burg has had is three--ironically my sophomore, junior and senior years in high school 1980-81 to 1982-83. (I did not play which is one reason that they won.)

Wheelersburg girls had a lot of championships in the old Scioto County League and had at least one string of three in a row when Edith Hall was on the team in the 1930's. New Boston was not one of the better girls' teams during that era. South Webster, Wheelersburg, Valley and Green all did well then and took turns at being top dog.

The following is from the OHSAA records So I guess no SOC boys team I or II has had four consecutive league championships or at least the OHSAA does not know about it If the Burg has had that many maybe someone should tell the OHSAA OHSAA does not list cosecutive league championships for GIRLS

Consecutive League Championships (BOYS)
1 12 Wooster Triway, Mohican Area Conference (1989-2000)
2 11 Chesapeake, Ohio Valley Conference (1996-2006)
3 10 Trotwood-Madison, Greater Miami Valley Conference (1988-1997)
4 8 Oberlin (1983-1990)
5 7
Worthington Christian, Mid-Buckeye Conference (1994-2004)
7
Sebring McKinley (1973-1979)
7
6
Bellevue (1992-1998)
8 5 Centerville (2005-2009)
9
4 Sebring McKinley (1986-1989)
4 Sebring McKinley (1981-1984)
4
New Lebanon Dixie (1966-1969)
4
New Lebanon Dixie (1955-1958)

Why can't you or anyone give the Lady Tigers the credit they deserve. For four years these girls have worked hard to get where they are. Just take a moment and say congratulations. And obviously you do not know what you are talking about as far as the score of the game at Eastern. It was 70-44..........in New Boston that calculates to 26 points...............where did you get the 35 points? We have heard for all of those years that someone was going to take it away. I will be the first to congratulate the Eagles should they win the conference next year. The cupboard is not exactly bare for the Tigers. Also, do you know the enrollment for Eastern girls is 98 as opposed to NB's 46.

With all that being said............I am off to the game that will be history making for the New Boston Glenwood Lady Tigers!

Great job! The New Boston community is proud of your accomplishments!

Are you really going to try an say they havnt ran thru every oppenent in the SOC? Wow thats sad. Yes, they got beat badly AT Eastern Pike but thats only one conference defeat and the only other defeat is to Georgetown and they are a really good team from up North. Its easy to say that the Lady Tigers will be "tamed" next season with the departures of Alyssa Raines, Missy Buckley, and Mychael Hamilton. All three of these girls have led the Lady Tigers all season long. I think it is time to give these girls the respect their due. Coming into this season, everyone was downing the Lady Tigers saying they wont win another division title because of Kayla Wiley graduating. Well, looks to me like they are proving everyone wrong! These girls used that as motivation to win another SOC championship.

By the way, Eaglesnest, If you would happen to be in New Boston around 4 o'clock, you are more than welcome to stop by and watch the Lady Tigers cut down the nets and walk by the trophy case down the hall from the gymnasium and stare at the SOC trophies.

Whitewhiskers--I didn't know they had that category that in boys. I will let the Wheelersburg AD know so he can submit the information. OHSAA records are only made up of those records that have been submitted. They do not go out of their way to seek out records. Wheelersburg Boys won 73-74, 74-75, 75-76, 76-77, 77-78, 78-79, 79-80, 80-81, 81-82, 82-83, 83-84. Mike Hughes was coach for the first six years then four years under John Eaton and then the first year with Mike Lovenguth.

Year Overall regular tournament Coach
73-74 15-6 13-5 2-1 Mike Hughes
74-75 20-3 16-2 4-1* Mike Hughes
75-76 23-1 18-0 5-1** Mike Hughes
76-77 18-2 17-1 1-1 Mike Hughes
77-78 18-2 17-1 1-1 Mike Hughes
78-79 16-4 15-3 1-1 Mike Hughes
79-80 18-6 15-5 3-1* John Eaton
80-81 18-3 18-2 0-1 John Eaton
81-82 25-2 19-1 6-1*** John Eaton
82-83 20-3 18-2 2-1* John Eaton
83-84 23-5 16-4 7-1*** Mike Lovenguth

The Lady Tigers are back to back to back to back Southern Ohio Conference Champions!
Congratulations!

Excellent effort by the Lady Tartans.......keep working hard.......the future looks bright for Tartan basketball! Good Luck!

Those eleven in a row should tie Burg with Chesapeake with the second longest in the state The 83-84 season was 26 years ago sure would have thought someone would have sent it in by now!!!

The Notre Dame Lady Titans have won 5 consecutive SOC championships and this years seniors never lost an SOC game. That being said the Titans should be the favorites again next season and maybe for a few more years.
