Man tough call here, burg played good against a really nice Ashland team but let's be realistic Ashland made some mistakes on that final drive to allow burg the opportunity to tie the game. Greenup isn't there from a talent stand point so I think this will be a huge game to see where burg stands. Jackson is improving every week and they put a 4 quarter game together this week against western brown. Look for Jackson defense to make it tough on burg and pull out the win at home in a close one. 21-14

I can’t make a prediction yet. Game is to tough to call. My mind says Jackson but my gut says burg. Going to be a dandy

A lot of Harbins up for grabs. Been a while since the Ironmen have won one against the Burg, this was Ironton's year but not so sure this is Jackson's year again - gimme the Pirates pulling away in the 4th in dramatic fashion. 31-21.

I don’t know about this game. I’m beginning to think the burgs defense just isn’t very good. Gave up 30 to an ironton offense that is very one dimensional, Hartley could have put up 100 if they wanted to, 33 to Ashland (I know 6 of those were from a int return) and Greenup went up and down the field and really stopped themselves more than the burg stopped them. They remind me a lot of Ohio states defense last year.

Burg also has had to change personnel. They are getting better defensively. This will be a good game.

I think if Jackson isn’t too amped to do their jobs that they have a good chance to win this game.

No long plays allowed receiving and I think we find a way to win. We must not be one dimensional but keep the chains moving also. Others have found their way a bit with Prater out, gonna need a few receivers to pull in a few big catches for 1st downs throughout the game as needed. Skill guys gotta take care of the ball. You want to beat Burg you better be pretty clean and make a few big plays.

Fake punts, onside kicks should be expected by all 11 guys literally every opportunity. Allowing Matthews to get deep on any play would be disappointing.

Personal fouls cannot happen.

How bad do you want it? Do your job. Win

Another war for the Burg young men...as stated above I think this game will give a little more insight into what kind of playoff run we could be looking at. CAN'T WAIT to watch it!!

Good D3 team against a very good D5 team, FAC vs SOC, Burg has played a tougher schedule thus far & Jackson has taken care of business, Burg #6 in reg.19 & Jackson #7 in reg. 11, Burg still searching puzzle pieces & Jackson knows their identity, Burg been there done that & Jackson been there but has not done that. Oh, what the heck: Burg 28 - Jackson 21

Here comes the unbalanced line and all the fixings of traps, dives and counters lol - Burg has mostly been able to stop it in years past. Game of the week stuff here, Jackson stadium will be a good venue for this one. I think we may play Ironton again this year in the playoffs back in Jackson, but that's another story for later need to stick to Week 5. Sounds like the Ironmen have a stable of RBs and a solid line so its deja vu all over again lol.

Been looking forward to this game for a while now. Wheelersburg has been the class of SE Ohio football in recent years (and has always been one of the very best programs in the area), and they have certainly had Jackson's number since this series was revived. The Ironmen have had some pretty solid teams in most of these matchups, but the Burg has just been on another level with the exception of 2014.

This year, Burg has been missing some key players, but they seem to have adjusted and are hitting their stride now. Losing to Hartley and a solid Ironton team is really no indication that they're "down". Jackson has been able to run the football as usual, and they have had some success through the air, but not consistently. Defensively, Jackson has been dominant against the run, but they have shown a weakness against the deep ball. If they get Prater back this week, that should help the secondary immensely, but pass defense is still a major concern.

I like to think that the Ironmen have a great chance to win this game, and if they don't turn the ball over or kill drives with penalties, they very well could. But, in my opinion, Wheelersburg should still be the favorite. The Ironmen gotta earn it, and get some payback for losing 6 of the last 7 games.

Listing the series history below, which has largely been controlled by Wheelersburg. The late 80s were not the most successful period in Jackson football overall, but when these two teams scrimmaged in the 90s and 2000s, there were some absolute battles. Always a great indication of where each team stood heading into the season. Jackson shows a game against Wheelersburg in 1939, which seems a bit strange since they didn't play again until 1976. I wonder if that was a game against Wheelersburg High School, or possibly a YMCA team from Wheelersburg.

Wheelersburg leads the overall series, 15-7-0.

1939 - Jackson 19 - Wheelersburg 0
1976 - Wheelersburg 21 - Jackson 6
1977 - Jackson 15 - Wheelersburg 14
1978 - Wheelersburg 27 - Jackson 8
1979 - Wheelersburg 18 - Jackson 7
1980 - Jackson 27 - Wheelersburg 6
1981 - Wheelersburg 20 - Jackson 13
1982 - Jackson 13 - Wheelersburg 12
1983 - Jackson 28 - Wheelersburg 16
1984 - Jackson 14 - Wheelersburg 12
1985 - Wheelersburg 43 - Jackson 0
1986 - Wheelersburg 42 - Jackson 0
1987 - Wheelersburg 65 - Jackson 6
1988 - Wheelersburg 49 - Jackson 0
1989 - Wheelersburg 26 - Jackson 13
2012 - Wheelersburg 40 - Jackson 14
2013 - Wheelersburg 49 - Jackson 14
2014 - Jackson 27 - Wheelersburg 0
2015 - Wheelersburg 28 - Jackson 7
2016 - Wheelersburg 38 - Jackson 13
2017 - Wheelersburg 38 - Jackson 14
2018 - Wheelersburg 33 - Jackson 14

Two programs that know each other well. The burg has to tackle well and stop the run trying to make Jackson one dimensional. Jackson will try to stop 29. 25 will return this week. Good old fashioned slobber knocker coming this Friday.
Like poo bear 🐻 says, no trash talking, a ton of respect for the Ironman and it’s coaches.

Toss up game. Jackson seems to have more of an identity on offense. Wheelersburg has to do a better job tackling. Should be a great atmosphere and a great game! Go Burg!!
