The Buckeyes will start the season as the #3 ranked team in the country. 4 of the top 5 teams, and 6 of the top 10 teams in the nation are from the Big Ten. The conference has 8 in the top 20 as well.

Penn State (#1), Iowa (#2), Ohio State (#3), Nebraska (#5), Wisconsin (#6), Minnesota (#7), Michigan (#19), Northwestern (#20). There are 4 other Big Ten teams receiving votes: Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue and Michigan State.

The Buckeyes opened up what should be another successful season on Saturday at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing. 5 Buckeyes earned champion honors. True Freshman Carson Kharchla earned victory at 165lbs. While Redshirt Freshman Sammy Sasso earned gold at 149lbs. Both debuts for these two couldn't have gone any better. The full results for the Buckeyes were as follows:

125lbs: Malik Heinselman - 6th place
133lbs: Quinn Kinner - 3rd place
141lbs: Luke Pletcher - 1st place
149lbs: Sammy Sasso - 1st place
157lbs: Jaden Mattox - 11th place
165lbs: Carson Kharchla - 1st place
174lbs: Kaleb Romero - 1st place
184lbs: Gavin Coffman - Lost in 2nd round of WBs
197lbs: Kollin Moore - 1st place
285lbs: Gary Traub - 4th place

The Michigan State Open consisted of teams from: Buffalo, Cal Poly, Campbell, Central Michigan, Davenport, Findlay, Illinois, Indiana, Indianapolis, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Tiffin and several unattached athletes.

Next up, Ohio State kicks off their duel season when they host Stanford next Sunday.

In their first duel of the season, the Buckeyes completed their first ever home match in the new Covelli Center, defeating a solid Stanford team, 29-6. Here are the results from the competition.

OSU was pretty solid on Friday, defeating #15 Pittsburgh on the road, 23-12, picking up victories in 6 out of 10 bouts, including 2 major decisions. Here were the final results:

For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Buckeyes lost a non-conference duel match. On Sunday, they fell to #11 Virginia Tech in Columbus, 21-15. OSU earned only 4 out of 10 victories, in what was an obvious upset for the Hokies. Here are the results:

Although they weren't able to extend their 3 year win streak at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite to 4 consecutive years, the Buckeyes did finish as runner-ups to conference foe Nebraska. The Cornhuskers won the tournament title with 118 points, followed by OSU with 109.5 points, and finishing in third was Arizona State with 103 points. Here are the final results for each individual wrestler:

141lbs: Luke Pletcher - CHAMPION
149lbs: Sammy Sasso - Runner-up

I think I read on Eleven Warriors that Chase Singletary, the big Heavyweight for the Buckeyes is out for the rest of the year as a result of the injury that occurred in this tournament.

The 7th ranked Buckeyes were able to be the first team this season to hand #4 Arizona State a loss, and they did so on Monday night in Columbus, when OSU picked up a 17-16 victory, securing the victory with just enough bonus points. Here are the results:

I see that the #5 ranked Buckeyes beat the #24 ranked Rutgers team tonight 22-13. I think there record in Duals this season is now 5-1.

After their conference victory over previously unbeaten #24 Rutgers, the Buckeyes move from #5 up to #4 this week.

OSU now has a big weekend coming up. They'll travel to #8 Wisconsin on Friday, then host a receiving votes Illinois team on Sunday.

These next 2 meets very well could be two of there most difficult matches of the year, especially this next Friday at Iowa.
