Ironton Basketball Classic
Ironton Basketball Classic
Ironton needs to step the teams up a notch that are playing in the classic. It has lost its appeal. Attendance is down for that event. Bring back some big time talent and people will come. Unless its a parent watching their kid play. There's not the kind of talent around here that people want to see.
Re: Ironton Basketball Classic
There is an easy explanation…. The previous AD was the basketball coach and put his heart and soul in to the classic, the new AD is the football coach and puts his heart in soul in to football. I’m not sure you’ll ever see the Ironton Classic the way it was.
Re: Ironton Basketball Classic
Its not up to the AD in general. He's there to help and support what the coach wants .The AD no matter what he is coaching should make no difference. Sounds to me like the AD basketball coach and the AD football coach were and are about themselves. The basketball coach is the one that should promote the classic. Its not a difficult thing to do. The basketball coach should be working on that in the off season which is now.

It 100% matters who the AD is, and yes most of the time the coach has a schedule of his choice. But something the size of the classic is more on the AD. Mark Lafon was the Bball coach/AD. He poured his heart into the classic, the type of monetary backing and communicating with other schools definitely would fall on the AD’s plate.

Re: Ironton Basketball Classic
To put on one of these Classics takes a lot of work. It is not a let's have a classic. It takes months and it has to involve more than the coach and ad to make it work. The problem is that some of same people are doing the work and need some new blood to step up and help. Been there and know what it takes. As you can tell not an Ironton person or fan but just giving my opinion.

I don't think it's finalized yet, but Portsmouth could be playing in the IC this season because the Trojans vs. Piketon was cancelled due to the Red Streaks already having a full schedule. The Trojans' last appearance in the Classic was vs. Africentric in 2017. PHS lost that game 57-50.

Caught on phone recordings + text messages actively recruiting a kid. It was pretty blatant and over the top.
