That’s not what the meeting was about.

The meeting wasn’t about Coach Pendleton. The meeting was about how to spend the Covid money before they have to give it back. Some people wanted it to be used on the indoor training facility that all students could use. I guess the Superintendent wants to find something else to use the money on, we shall see, they have a couple weeks or the money has to go back.
ESSER money (COVID) was already distributed and had to be spent by last September. You should try not to supply false information.

“Ohio schools have a deadline to spend their remaining ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds, which are part of the Education Stabilization Fund (ESSRA),. The third and final round of these funds, known as ARP ESSER (ESSER III), which were distributed in July 2021, must be used by the September 2024 deadline.”
I guess Ironton is special then, I was at the meeting and that’s exactly what it was about, go climb back in your mommas basement. I’ll be at Wednesdays meeting too.

I’m told not necessarily for coaching. Although it’s been posted he is one of the lowest paid coaches in SEO. He’s the AD at Ironton and for years Ironton AD was a Full time Administrative position. Then when they went to OVC they cut the position back to half teacher/ and made AD part-time. Last year BOE made the AD position full time again but only increased pay a few thiusand dollars from part time. He is now one of if not the lowest paid full time AD in SEO as well. They are wanting to get him back to administrative pay and keep him long term. That’s all. I’m told this is completely a community led deal and not from Coach Pendleton or Teachers Union.
Listen I’m not saying he isn’t worth the money but at some point people need to realize where you are. He’s not at a D1 school, it’s D5. The school has the lowest paid teachers in the county. Put money there. Don’t build a $1 million dollar shell for an indoor facility. Is Pendleton worth more money? Sure, but at what costs? At some point, the money can’t continually be raised. You are at Ironton, not Moeller. Give the teachers a one time bonus of let’s say $1,500. Improve the track, soccer field, baseball and softball. The Tank just got a brand new press box and scoreboard. And yes I know football at Ironton is the big money maker. But, if you look at other schools that have football, I would almost guarantee football is the biggest money draw. Regardless of wins and loses. It doesn’t matter if he wins 1 state championship or 5. The school can only afford what’s budgeted. No ones kid goes to college without teachers who care, bus drivers who smile and greet your kids, cooks who may give them their only hot meal of the day. Every graduation, every passing state test score, every perfect attendance, every smile is an extension of the district. Not one team or person. Teachers stay because they love Ironton, not because they get paid the most. Parents, you have a wonderful coach, but at what cost are you willing to take away from the whole?
The Covid money has to be spent toward the wellness of the students, it can’t be used to give to teachers or coaches, bus drivers, cooks or any other individual.
It actually can be used for one time bonuses. I know several schools that did it.

On a happier note, it was awesome to see the lights on the tank the other night to see the girls soccer team practicing on the turf. Do you know when they will be putting the soccer lines on the field so games can start be played there?? All students deserve equal opportunities to use school facilities.

It doesn’t matter what sport brings in the most money. The important thing is that the kids are getting a quality education to help prepare them to graduate and pursue a career field. All kids deserve the opportunity to receive a quality education and everything else (extracurricular) is just a feather in their cap.

This is called diversion. The ESSER money (COVID) had to already be spent or in the process of that a contract was already awarded. The citizens of Ironton (not just parents) don’t want to pass another tax levy increase to build an indoor practice facility for the football team. Many people living in the district are senior citizens. How many properties are being seized by the land bank because the property taxes can not be paid now???

I agree, don’t forget the Boys Soccer team. My guess would be the next time the turf is replaced, just a guess though.

Soccer lines should never go in at the tank. It’s a historical landmark would be a disgrace to have kick ball lines on there.

Oh, they are coming sooner than you expect. Why do you think they are already practicing there. It is a school owned facility that has to provide equal opportunity to all students. Maybe there will be just temporary lines placed until the turf is replaced. It should have been on there to begin with since school funding was used to purchase it. The addition of modern turf and a video board changes the historical feature as well as adding lines for soccer. All students deserve equal opportunities to use the Tanks Memorial Stadium and Bob Lutz Field/Pitch.

We didn’t have soccer when the turf was installed, I don’t recall anyone even talking about a soccer program then. I think it’s great to get them started, not something I enjoy watching though.

Yeah, I always found it odd that you had a St Joe soccer kid kicking field goals for the Ironton team and then found out you didn’t have soccer. I’m glad to see the sport growing and gives us more local teams to play both boys and girls soccer. I know last year Ironton had the soccer teams playing in that horrible field behind the elementary school with holes for kids to get hurt on.

Why not disband all other sports within the Ironton school district? Football is the only sport people in that town care about. Sure, some go to basketball games but how many have been to a softball game? Volleyball? Track meet? Perhaps they should’ve used at least of a portion of those funds to update the track. It has to be at least 30 years old but that’s not quite as important as the football team having their indoor facility. Anyone assuming that the indoor facility will be accessible for all student-athletes need to blow their nose and get that thought out of their head.

Will the new wellness center (indoor practice facility) have lines for soccer?? If it is for the wellness of students then it should have to be open to all students. Sad to sink that much money in a facility that could be used from academic/intervention programs to actually help student grow academically. It is earmarked money coming for disadvantaged and economic disadvantaged students for help overcome mental health and learning obstacles for social-economic students

Take a look at Disadvantage Pupil Impact Aid in Ohio. This is where the money is coming from and what it is suppose to be use for.

That isn’t COVID money. It is DPIA money which is for student wellness, overcoming learning obstacles, and mental health. Just look it up. COVID money was gone several years ago. This is based on poverty levels in districts.

PS: Did you get a look at Irontons State Championship rings on Facebook yet? They’re pretty sharp.
