Fairfield Union 61
Vinton County 43 a final

Scoring by Quarter:

Fairfield Union ....... 17 .... 17.... 14....13 .... 61
Vinton County .........12.......03.... 21 ...07..... 43

Pfloyd's official "UN-official" Napkin Stats - Vinton County

Scoring ... Josh Montgomery 16, Nash Yates 12, Jake Maxwell 5, Chase Greer 4, Jase Moore 3, Kole Ousley 3
3 Pointers ... 9/26 … Nash Yates 4, Josh Montgomery 3, Jase Moore 1, Jake Maxwell 1
FTs ... 4/7
TOs ... 10
PnP ... 6 fgs/ 12 points in the paint
PnT ... 2 fgs/ 4 points in transition
Pbk ... 0 fgs/ 0 points on putback buckets

... Coach Kight told me before the game that in his Vikings last game they put up 26 threes and 22 two point shots - vs FU yesterday VC again put up 26 three points (9/26) ... not much size for VC , basically a perimeter motion offense to get shooters open looks - 4 different Vikes hit treys with the best of the best being Nash Yates (4) and Josh Montgomery (3) ... VC was held to 4 fgs in the opening qtr - all 4 fgs were threes (4/10 from downtown) ... quarter 2 Fairfield Union extended their defense, not as many looks, only 0/4 on three point attempts ... the best offensive quarter for Vinton County was the 3rd as the Vikings put up 21 points ... a good combination of penetrating the paint and perimeter scoring - the balanced attack had VC getting 4 fgs at the rim and 3 triples on kick outs - a nice overall quarter for VC ... 3 point shooting/penetration into the paint/ sticky D that penalizes any ball brought down below the waist ... VC will continue to improve as the season progresses ...

Pfloyd's official "UN-official" Napkin Stats - Fairfield Union

Scoring ... Keaton Webb 13, Trevor Utzinger 11, Asa Kline 10, Drake DeFazio 9, Dean Clark 6, Camden Maynard 4, Kaden Woltz 4, Mason Ailes 2, Codie Andrews 2
3 Pointers ... 2/12 ... Trevor Utzinger 1, Drake DeFazio 1
FTs ... 7/10
TOs ... 8
PnP ... 20 fgs/ 40 points in the paint
PnT ... 1 fgs/2 points in transition
Pbk ... 3 fgs/ 6 points on putback buckets

... Coach Helber's Falcons might be the most balanced scoring offense I've seen - deep bench for FU as they play 9 with literally no fall off at either end of the court - offensively vs VC starters scored 33 pts , the next 4 off the bench added 28 with Keaton Webb (13 pts) getting scoring honors for the team for the 2nd straight game ... Kline & Webb make a good post player tandem ... subbing in/out for 3 quarters before going with both bigs on the floor in the 4th period taking advantage of the high/low post while allowing Kline to step out on the floor without sacrificing rebounding down low ... 40 points as a team in the paint, FU has players who can shoot the trey and a rarity in basketball - players who look comfortable in taking and knocking down the midrange jumper ... former 1000 pt FU scorer and big man in the middle is on staff - Colin Woodside - the work/play by the current crop of bigs for FU shows as both Webb & Kline do an outstanding job sealing off their man to allow outside penetration by FU ball handlers ... one of the true TEAMS - and a good one - in the Southeast District this season ... lots to like about this Falcon TEAM ...

I WAS impressed with the TEAM Coach Helber puts on the floor, they play as a TEAM at both ends ... the bench contributes as much to the outcome of the game as the starters ... depth is outstanding, Coach Helber has put together an outstanding staff of past Falcons, & Berne Union players that the current players look up to - he has four 1000 point scorers coaching up his players! Webb/Kline are outstanding bigs that are only going to get better under the teaching/coaching of the position by Colin Woodside - I could see it in the game with VC! it wasn't the flashy stuff it was the nuances of playing the post - sealing off defenders to open up lanes for penetration ... fun to watch! things that don't show up on the scoreboard for the player that performed the "task" but the TEAM benefits on the board and in the win column ... all of the Elite 8 are teams that I will be comparing all others to in the rankings all season ...
