During his tenure at Texas Tech, Knight was 138-82, and he led the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in four of his six seasons, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2005. The Red Raiders are 11-8 this season and 3-3 in the Big 12, tied for sixth in the conference with Oklahoma.

(Sad day. I hope he comes back to coach, soon)

any possibility he'll end up somewhere else? nothing brightens up my day more than waking up, turning on sportscenter and seeing bobby knight flipping out about something.

I'd say he is done..said on ESPN this morning that he was just tired, and didnt have the desire to come to practice and coach and teach every morning.

I was pretty suprised to see him go now, but it sets his son up perfect..

Sad to see him go, but I do agree that he was tired. 42 Seasons is quite a while, and he has truly left a mark on the world of college basketball...

Agree or disagree with his antics, this guy could flat out coach. Knights's teams of the mid 70's were very good and his 76 team was the last to go undefeated.

I think he will return at some point. He probably has a buddy or two at the AD position somewhere and he could coach up to 5 more seasons. How about a high school somewhere. Maybe another "Norman Dale?"

He graduated players.....turned them into good citizens.

And he won 3 championships, 8 big ten titles....etc.

If he stays healthy, I would not be surprised to see him come back and coach once the batteries are recharged.

Do you know that while his "antics" were getting widely publicized, he was also providing personal support to players whose "eligilibility" had run out before they had completed degree requirements?
Do you know that he is an Ohioan [Orrville, the "Smuckers" place] and an OSU grad who played [6th man] on the 1960 Buckeye Championship team with Jerry Lucas, John Havlicek, et al? [Of course I must add that that team lost twice to the U of Cincinnati team in 1961 and 1962.]
That famous "chair-throwing" incident happened decades ago, but is still being brought up and replayed as indicative of his whole career.
He is/was a great coach, but it's more "fun" to report/replay/repeat his "temper/antics" than to acknowledge his positive qualities and contributions.
Do you really think his teams achieved their records solely because of/in spite of his "temper"? He's plainly a great teacher and Coach!

No way is he done....Bobby, did his job by making his son Pat a good college coach....Just like Eddie Sutton did with Sean Sutton at Oklahoma State....

But, Eddie Sutton retired and his son was named his successor.....

Remember, Bobby Knight did not retire....He resigned and Pat was named his successor....Leaving everything wide open....

Bobby Knight will coach again for sure....I wouldn't be suprised if he doesn't end up in the southern part of the PAC-10....

Remember, 902 wins he's not finished....
