How long have you had it? I would try taking it back to the store where you got it. My son got one for Christmas and it didn't work..

I'd say if you bought a new unit & it didn't work, the store that sold it is obligated to either replace it or refund all your money, under the law of "implied warranty of merchantability", that is, a product one buys must be fit to perform its intended function. USED units generally carry no warranyy nor guarantee of any kind.
My son purchased a unit that worked for 7 months, then refused to show any video. Microsoft replaced the unit free of charge. Naturally, we have no idea what they did with the old one, but most likely it went into a grinder somewhere.

you can call 1-800-4-my-xbox. They will send you a shipping box free of charge to get repaires. It usually takes 3-6 weeks top get repairs back.
Make sure it is 1 or 3 red rings. Those are hardware failures. 2 rings means the box is overheated and 4 means some things are unplugged or not plugged in correctly.
