Do Redbirds Predict Snow?
I think I've heard this somewhere and this evening our feeders were swamped with redbirds, not five or ten, but a whole flock. A few folks at work are thinking we'll get quite a bit of snow the next few days, even though when I've watched the weather it doesn't look like it will be much, so.....I thought I'd do a little search to see if the redbird theory was documented. Well, didn't exactly find it but found a whole page of weather folklore, a lot I'd heard of and many I hadn't, so thought I'd share. And I thought Newlex might appreciate and try to test some of them to what really happens.

Well, we do and he's usually pretty accurate but I'm getting a lot of conflicting reports depending on the station I watch or person I talk to, so I've resorted to watching bird behavior. Then again they're probably just beefing up to stay warm through the next few really cold nights.

My Grandmother always said there was going to be a change in the weather, when she would see a red bird. I guess it is a really old saying.

I DO KNOW THIS ,hERE AT THE BAITCAVE, WHEN IT JUST SPITS THE SLIGHTEST FLURRIES , I GET BURIED WITH NORTHERN CARDINALS, SORRY FOR CAPS, not just a few here and there, but i look out back out the sliding glass door, and i see dozens of male (red) cardinals. then i start looking around. and see just as many females, just blend in more, this time of year. they also love to get in the birdbath's, and stay for a long time. when seeds drop when it's snowing, they dive down, after them, but normally don't just spill it, and keep going. in bad weather my finch, sparrow, and blue jays flock to the feeder. and the woodpeckers , really load up on peanut butter, and suet.
