Thank you for your kind words and prayers,
Let me tell you the story of my precious child,
December 18, 1988 he was born. From breathe one it was a struggle. He had
aspirated some fluids and didn't breathe as well as most baby's. After an hour
he was breathing well on his own.
At about 3 months of age, mom and I notice that his physical abilities are not developing
like some should be. We were told then that he was possibly born with cerebral palsy.
We took Travis to all the specialist we could find, but always had the same answers.
" We are sorry, but we do not know a lot about cerebral palsy, and several other child
problems. The research is ongoing, but who knows when we can find a cure, or prevention."
We had Travis in countless days, years of therapy physical/occupational to try to strengthen his muscles.
As we tried everything, Travis would always give you a smile. A very happy child.
As time went on, Travis had to get a G-tube to help him eat as he could not swallow
properly and would aspirate. As mom and I cried because of surgery, he just smiled.
His muscles would spasm tight, and was pulling his joints into contractures and had to have
the tendons in the hips, knees, ankles clipped. As days went by they were slowly dislocating his joints.
As painful as is was, he always managed to give us, and every one else, a smile.
Over the years, Travis had to had 2 surgeries to tighten his esophagus because of acid flux,
a pump implanted in his abdomen with a hose ran to spine to help control the muscle spasms,
He became labored in respirations and had to have a trach tube placed to ease him breathing.
The scoliosis in his spine became so severe that it was either corrective surgery to save his life, but the surgery could kill him. Travis through out, always managed a smile. Threw all his limitations and pains, Travis was always the ray of sunshine in any on in the room. After his surgery to correct his scoliosis, 3 weeks later, he was able to come home. Travis was home about 6 hours. He was excited about putting up the Christmas Tree, being at home, seeing his brothers when he passed away in his sleep.
Through out his life, though he was the one going threw more pain and suffering than anyone person should ever endure in a life time, he always gave you a smile.
The last several days have been hard. While at the grave site, the song "when I see you smile" by bad english was playing. The weather was cold, windy. I once again found myself crying for my son. As the song came to the end, as in classic Travis style, the clouds parted and a bright ray of sunshine came down on us. Hollywood could have not written it any better.
I know it was Travis and God, letting us know it is all okay.
I know my child is now not in pain, but running, walking, playing in heaven.
So, no matter how bad things may get for me, he'll remind me to smile, and he is with me.
March of Dimes, The Jerry Lewis Telethon's are some great research organizations.
Please give a couple of dollars. If everyone just gives a few, some day, no child will have to
go threw this.
I love you son...

When I see you smile...
When I See You Smile
Sometimes I wonder how I'd ever make it through
Through this world without having you, I just wouldn't have a clue
'Cos sometimes it seems like this world's closing in on me
And there's no way of breaking free, and then I see you reach for me
Sometimes I wanna give up, I wanna give in, I wanna quit the fight
And then I see you baby, and everything's alright, everything's alright
When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh oh, you know I can do anything
When I see you smile, I see a ray of light, oh oh
I see it shining right thru the rain
When I see you smile, baby when I see you smile at me
Baby there's nothing in this world that could ever do
What a touch of your hand can do, it's like nothing that I ever knew
And when the rain is falling, I don't feel it, 'cos you're here with me now
And one look at you baby, is all I'll ever need, it's all I'll ever need
When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh oh, you know I can do anything
When I see you smile, I see a ray of light, oh oh
I see it shining right thru the rain
When I see you smile, baby, baby when I see you smile at me
Sometimes I wanna give up, I wanna give in, I wanna quit the fight
Then one look at you baby, and everything's alright, everything's alright
So right
When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh oh, you know I can do anything
When I see you smile, I see a ray of light, oh oh
I see it shining right thru the rain, yeah
When I see you smile, I can face the world, oh oh, you know I can do anything
When I see you smile, oh yeah, baby when I see you smile, smile at me

Blue53 I am typing these words through blurred vision. That was the most touching tribute I have ever read. I am the father of 5 children and there are no words I can say that would begin to convey the compassion I feel for you right now. As you said your baby boy is running and playing right now and is one of heavens favorites because of what he endured on earth. For me to say I know how you feel would be grossly inaccurate and insensitive I send you my prayers and the prayers of my family and the sympathy of a father who can only imagine how you feel. FIDO my prayers for you as you are there for your brother. I know you share in his pain and hurt for him as well as your nephew. May God's Grace comfort all of you.
