Who is the toughest basketball coach on his players in SE Ohio?

I've got to put a vote in for Coach Howie Caldwell both with his Eastern Eagles and his former Southern Tornadoes. He's pretty tough on his players but his record speaks for itself. He's had a lot of success over the years.

FrozenRope....For the same reasons you mentioned about Coach Caldwell, I would echo for Norm Persin at Oak Hill and formerly of Chesapeake and Matt Combs of Vinton County.

Their faces can get flush red at times and they can get on their guys, but you definitely get positive results. And they do it in a way where the players, I think, know they are becoming better basketball players and not taking it personally.

I remember Coach Combs of Vinton County getting T'd up for yelling at a ref last year in a game...

Coach scarberry of northwest can get pretty loud at times, and it doesn't help that he has coach spears as an assistant, now that man can go nuts ....although coach scarberry does remain very calm during the games, he's very good with the refs!!!

coach Kellough at Chilli demands great defense before you can even see the court.

I'd say Rick Van Matre of Greenfield McClain is very demanding of his players.......and one of the reasons that he has had only 1 losing season in his 27 years at GM........a program that traditionally doesn't produce a lot of talented players.

I would have to go with coach SAUNDERS at South Gallia. I played for him once he took over at SG and we held our own with teams we were not expected to and we beat some of them over the years that were sapose to blow us out! One of the games we were sapose to get blown out in was my senior years sectional against trimble and we had the chance to blow them out if I would of played my normal game and a few of the others wouldn tof had bad games! I really enjoyed having him as a coach and I and my teamates believed in what he was coaching us to do!!!

I would definitely say Coach Caldwell ranks up there... He sure can yell...

Yeah, I thought of Carl Wolfe... He was Howie's mentor... I saw him yelling at one of the Meigs girls' tournament games... I'm sure if he wanted to, he could really yell during the games....

I cannot believe that Wheelersburg's Tom Barrick has not been mentioned yet. Coach Barrick conducts a very intense practice that directly leads to the success that his Pirate teams have had during his 14+ years at the 'Burg.
