I personally know a few coaches that were there scouting at their game last Friday. He told me that their program had been completely restructured from coaches to players who hadnt played in the past. Said they had a few good standout athletes. Any info on this program and if they could have a surprisingly good season.

I did some research on MaxPreps. Found out that CG's only win(on there) was a 24 pt pasting of Rose Hill. They just beat Rose Hill by 30. Might want to hold off on any resurrection of the program talk until they play a real opponent.

Congrats on starting off 1-0 though, only about 48% of the teams in the state do it.

Seems your info is correct. I attended the rose hill game and saw that the entire coaching staff was new and that almost the entire grove roster was made up of kids who have in the past only been know for playing football. I don't know how good they will be, but they played hard and it's great to finally see the athletes at the grove contributing to all the programs. That's something I believe cg had lost in recent years and led to the dissapointing season last year.

Hard to tell about stand-outs because they played the whole bench.

Alex Bare and Bryan Steele are a given to be standouts all year long.

I saw CG play and what i saw was Football players(good athletes with good speed) playing Basketball. maybe 1 player on the team has the ability to get off a shot on his own? They play a pretty cup cake schedule early,so no indication of how good they will be.
I think against a structured team they suffer badly, hustle and speed might keep them in games but in the end they are not very good.

They would prob fare better in a fist fight lol

No doubt they would fare better in a fist fight...HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

All of those guys have played ball before..they just need to shake the dust off of their jerseys
and get in a rhythm. When they were sticking to running the offense they were scoring with ease.
When they deviated from team work..they went a little sideways. Let's hope their desire to win
will become the most important thing and they will stay working as a team. They have lots of talent
on that team but it has to work as a unit.

I've only seen CG play once but I certainly saw Steele as a difference maker.

No. The old Ironton Middle School, where SJ used to play, no longer exists. They play their boys varsity and jv games in the new Ironton High School's aux gym.

for once in my lifetime i agree with bwh, lol. steele always guards the other teams best player and still contributes well on the offensive end. cg is getting better with each game as they grow as a team. most of these boys haven't played for 3 or 4 years so their all learning as they go. a 3-0 start is good and they have more wins now than they did all last year. getting rid of ward was the best for the grove program.
