Honestly, its not fair to even compare teams now to the 80 and 82 teams. They were great, heard plenty of stories and seen plenty of film, but times have changed over the years and so has the game. I do know, Kent Wolfe can still step on the court and take any kid 1 on 1, right now lol #witnessed

I really didnt think those teams were that good. They won on hometown refs in the regular season and blind luck in the playoffs. Cousin H was really not that good.

In 1982 NY beat us 83-68 and in 1981 we beat NY 75-47. We lost two games in 1982 one was in the state championship and one was to NY. I don't feel to bad about losing to NY with the athletes they had Mays,Taggart,Maiden,Sheny and Pitts to name a few. I Know at least one of these guys played D1 ball. Our starting five consisted of 5'8,5'9,5'9,6'1 and 6'3 so they were a tough match up. The Dog keep pretending and maybe someone will believe you played lol.

My point is you seemed to want to insinuate that some of the NY players played D1 basketball. Didn't Kent Wolfe play basketball at the college level?

Kent Wolfe played at Rio Grande. I said D1 ball not D1 basketball. If you were old enough to have watched Mays, Taggart and Maiden you would know what I meant by athletes.

I know what you wrote, and it appeared you were meaning D1 basketball since this is a basketball forum. I am old enough to know that Taggert could shoot, but athletic? He was slow, and could not jump over the half court line if his life depended on it. But he was a great shooter. Mays was big and strong, like a linebacker, so yes he was athletic for a football player. Maiden could jump out of the gym, and could shoot from mid range. I would think with Zane Beagle, Kent Wolfe, and Jay Rees you would agree that Southern was athletic too.

I believe it was 1981 when Southern beat Southeastern in 2OT's and they cut down their own nets! It was the craziest thing I ever witnessed at a game. SE went on to state semi's and lost to Kalida. But that was a good rivalry also in the 80's.
