Congrats to Carter , Fletcher and McBee representing southern Ohio respectfully in this game .. Also Congrats to Zac Carter for taking the one on one competition defeating some very talented Ohio all stars and then defeating Kentucky's side champion to win it for Ohio .. And Austin McBee for winning the 3 pt contest on the Ohio side against some great talent and he as well stepped up to take on Kentucky's champion and defeated him to take the over all 3pt championship for Ohio !

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – The 22nd annual Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game got off to a rousing start Friday evening with its Slam Jam All-Star Night of Stars. The event features the top senior from both states and began with the girls 3-Point Shootout. The winning player from Ohio was Konner Harris, while Kentucky’s Larryn Brooks was crowned the overall champion with a final round score of 14. The boys 3-Point winner from Ohio was Austin McBee (Minford), while Kentucky was represented by Omar Prewitt from Montgomery County. McBee took the overall 3-point championship sinking the money-ball (worth 2-points) on the final ball rack.

The second event of the night 1-on-1 saw Tecumseh's Briana Quisenberry defeat Kayla McDowell (Mason) by a score of 9-5 for the Ohio Championship. The Kentucky winner was Kentucky’s Miss Basketball Makayla Epps (Marion County) who defeated Serena Sandusky from Lexington Bryan Station by a score of 14-8. Epps, the McDonalds All-American was the overall champion winning on a last-second shot. The boys Kentucky champion was Logan O’Bryan (Daviess County) defeating Demetrius McReynolds (Louisville Butler). Ironton’s Zac Carter took the boys title for Ohio winning by a one-point margin. Carter also took the overall championship with a 12-10 win over O’Bryan.

In the 3-on-3 Championship the Kentucky Girls team of Larryn Brooks (Madison Central), Leah Schaeffer (Fort Thomas Highlands), and Makayla Epps (Marion County) defeated team Ohio made up of Alexis Henning (Centerville), Megan Galloway (Greenville), and Trischa Lacy (Urbana). For the boys 3-on-3 Championship Team Ohio made up of Ironton’s Zac Carter, and the Walnut Hills duo of DJ Wingfield and Isaiah Johnson defeated Kentucky’s Rusty Troutman (Bullitt East), Demetrius McReynolds (Louisville Butler) and Tyler Jones (Montgomery County).

The night was capped off with high-flying exploits of the top dunkers from both the Bluegrass and Buckeye State's. After 6 initial dunkers in the contest the final two athletes were Kentucky's Ray Kasongo (Pikeville) and Ohio's Josh Davenport (Cincinnati Moeller). Kasonga walked away with the title with final score of 49-47.

The scoring numbers are off for Ohio because they don't add up to total points scored Ohio lol........

I had the pleasure of watching the game Saturday evening at Thomas More College.

In addition to his 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 crowns, Zac Carter was the starting point guard on an Ohio team that boasted 10 D-I signees or commits. Ohio prevailed over Kentucky 106-98, and Zac scored 12 points. A significant portion of the game had Zac matched up against Kentucky Mr. Basketball Dominique Hawkins, the star of the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen, where Hawkins averaged 26.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Hawkins' efforts led his Madison Central squad a state title, resulted in Hawkins being named Tournament MVP, and earned him an offer from Kentucky to play for John Calipari next season. The Carter-Hawkins matchup ended with Hawkins scoring 14 points to Carter’s 12 points, but with Carter’s Ohio team coming away with the victory.

While the Ohio side featured several quality guards (Josh Davenport/Moeller/Winthrop; Jack Gibbs/Westerville North/Davidson; Kevin Johnson/Summit Country Day/Cincinnati; Jalen Rhea/New Albany/American; and DJ Wingfield/Walnut Hills/Ohio), the most effective Ohio guard tandem was Zac Carter at point and future Bearcat Kevin Johnson at the shooting guard. Johnson garnered Ohio MVP honors with 21 points on the evening.

Zac’s highlights included a stretch late in the first half when he blew by Hawkins on consecutive drives to the hoop for baskets, helping the Ohio stars to a double digit lead. In the second half, he turned into more of a playmaker, and added a spectacular oop to Josh Davenport for a slam that got the crowd on its feet. Official assist totals from the game are not available, but I would estimate that Carter finished with 5-7 on the night.

Zac’s Ironton teammate, 6-6 Trey Fletcher, also had a fine effort manning the power forward slot for Ohio. He finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds, to back up his 27 point, 13 rebound effort at the Ohio Final Four a couple of weeks ago.

In short, Carter was the top point guard and Fletcher was the top power forward on an Ohio team featuring at least 10 D-I players.

Southeastern Ohio was also well represented in the game by Chesapeake's Javon Thompson, who scored 5 points, and Minford's Austin McBee, who scored 2. Thompson's tenacious defense and three point bucket helped key an Ohio run in the first half when the Buckeye stars took the lead for good, and McBee's 3-point shooting crown was mentioned above. Thompson and McBee both merited additional playing time, but simply were the victims of a numbers game in which there were so many quality guards playing for the Ohio squad. Both players, along with the Ironton guys, did a terrific job of representing southeastern Ohio basketball last Saturday night. Everyone who follows this board would have been proud of their efforts and the way they conducted themselves.

By the way, UK-bound Dominique Hawkins was not the best player on the Kentucky team. That honor belongs to MiKyle McIntosh, a very impressive 6-6 Canadian who most recently played for the 22 Ft. Academy in Jackson, KY. The 22 Ft. Academy is a Holland-based basketball academy/travel team for non-American players who want to seek opportunities to play college ball in the US (sounds a lot like Huntington Prep). The kids playing for the 22 Ft. Academy attend school at Breathitt County High School, but only play for the travel team. McIntosh scored 18 points and was named the Kentucky MVP Saturday night, but is unsigned as yet. Reports say that McIntosh has visited UCLA, and is being courted by many other top D-I programs such as Florida, Miami, Oregon, Alabama, and Memphis.
